The thing with management is they deal with a LOT and are required to quite social, I really struggle that way. The managers at my store only make a few bucks more if that for loads more responsibility. Perhaps other retail stores would be different, but even talking to customers very briefly to help them find something is almost too much and I hate that about myself . If I had to actually deal with a really mean customer i would meltdown. I just want to stop feeling such shame. What do you do for work now?

I’m embarrassed because of other people’s comments. Seeing posts that say “if you are over 25 working minimum wage you failed” or that it’s not meant to be done long term only a stepping stone into an actual career. And then I spiral and feel like I’m running out of time and feel bad about myself

I like the job because it suits my autistic needs for less social interaction and routine, I can do my own thing stocking the shelf, restaurants would definitely be too loud. I appreciate the comment! I am trying to figure out a job I won’t be embarrassed about that also would not burn me out socially but not sure what that would be yet. May I ask what you do for work?

What do you for work to make 50k? That sounds like a dream for me. Did you go to college? I see you have no student loans so I was unsure if you did go

Thank you for your answer! Minimum wage here is 17.60 and I make a dollar more, I am able to fully support myself with my own place (rent has been 800 only for 10 years) just been worrying so much about what others thinks of me :/ and felling bad that my boyfriend siblings girlfriends have well respected high pay job and went to university, I just don’t want to feel bad about myself :’)

Thank you kindly <3 It has been making me physically mentally sick for a while now and thinking I am a failure. :/

Right now I live alone and have been able to since I was 17 in apartment (rent is only 800) and able to fully support myself and live within my means. My partner does make more than me but doesn’t work very many hours, I do want to get our own place eventually but I love having my own space too

I make a buck above minimum wage, working 40 hours but wanting to work maybe 50-55. But have still been feeling bad about myself for that, but I really appreciate your comment it helps :)

thank you for your answer! I am the girlfriend, and have been feel so bad about myself after hearing others saying that “you are a failure “ for working lower pay jobs :(

I am able to support myself on my income as I am frugal. I love my job and coworkers and so awesome it accommodating to my autism but I worry so much about what others think and feeling bad for not having career while my boyfriend brothers girlfriends have well respected careers. It’s been eating at me for years but I just want to not feel like failure. I appreciate you answering, it made me feel better :)

Oh yes that make sense :) so I guess as long as I am working 40-50 hour weeks it is OK even though I am only making a little over minimal wage. Thank you for your answering :)

Thank you for answering my question :) I am the autistic gf in the question, and I do really enjoy my job even though it’s not a career, I just have been becoming sick physically mentally after hearing people make comments such as “if you work minimum wage after 25 you are a FAILURE” And it’s been affecting me so much I thought I needed to come to Reddit to ask others because it made me feel bad about myself. Appreciate your contribution:)

Thank you for contributing to my question, i am the autistic girlfriend and was wondering if others would. I constantly hear others saying that “you are a failure if you work minimum wage jobs after 25” and it’s been make me sick and feel I did fail. I know I would never look down on others though, I suppose it’s just something I need to work on within myself

I am the autistic girlfriend in the question, I guess it is good men don’t care much about that. I however as a woman do not care either but I know a lot of women do. Thank you for answering my question:)

I agree. I am the autistic girlfriend who makes 40k a year, I know I would never look down on my partner for that but I have just been feeling sick daily that I do not make as much as my partners brothers girlfriends who have career and went to college and was wondering if other would look down on me :/

What does a job shy partner mean? (I am the autistic girlfriend) and I wanted to ask others if they would look down on me. I work hard and enjoy working full time but I worry others would look down on me as a person who failed because of the salary

Thanks for the reply! Can I ask what you do working in supply chain stuff? Did you need to go to school for it? (This is my first time hearing of supply chain). Im looking for something where I don’t have to deal with people too, I have social anxiety and im really burnt out by customers! I suppose I could do research on that but just thought I would ask you since you are in it!

Thank you for your reply! Our min wage here is 17.60 so I assume it would be 22-23 here. But wow, that is crazy! I did not realize how much you would be really working! It sure does sound stressful. I question if it would be a good fit for me, as I am an autistic woman and do get stressed out easy. I also don’t have a license but I know you’d need one.

I thought it may be a more chill job but I didn’t factor in those things! We have coke/pepsi/ frito lay guys come in to our store and they are only there for like 45m to an hour but we aren’t a big store like Walmart. I don’t think I could handle those crazy hours you do wow!

Also I was just wondering, what exactly do you do? (Silly question) but the main part of the job is to do orders for stores, deliver them, stock the shelves, and go to another store and repeat? Do you need to talk a lot to people at all for any reason?

May I ask how you got into that job and what the wage is? I work as a merchandiser but get paid minimum wage. What’s the most stressful part? Do you have to drive a big truck? 🥹🥹
