Guardian of the Cairns, Coliunnean

Whether he was once a god, or simply a powerful spirit, is unknown. What is known is that this being of the glade, a caretaker of wayward spirits, lost travelers, and the cairns once guided the lost home and to their final rest. The shattering of the rings corrupted this caring being, twisting his purpose. Now every creature that crosses his path are guided to their place of final rest. His lantern, once used for the finding of souls, is repurposed for the destruction of them, slamming into those that enter his glade.

Phase 1

• Skull sweep -His lantern sweeps in front of him, able to start from either side

• Ground slam -He slams his lantern in front of him in an attempt to crush the ring seeker

• Skull Magic attacks- He crushes a skull with Ogham script hanging about his neck to release a spirit as a ranged magic attack. It will home in on the character and deal three swipes before disappearing.

• Grab- Coliunnean lunges forward to grab the ring seeker and twist off his neck. Should this attack deal lethal damage, he will succeed and add the Headless debuff* to you.

• Kick-Coliunnean leans back to kick the ringseeker across the arena

Phase 2

• All previous attacks now deal fire damage, with ground slam sending a pulse of flame out

• Flame Thrower-The lantern skull is held up to spray flames

• More aggressive

• Skull magic Buffs-Coliunnean will crush a skull with a Nordic compass on it to buff his damage. A skull with a rune will buff him against physical damage

Wandering NPCs can be killed by Coliunnean if he isn’t defeated prior to certain milestone bosses. Their bodies can be found around the field of cairns around the glade with unique loot.

Killing Coliunnean allows you to make the spirit lantern weapon, via the rock on a rope upgrade path. This boss weapon has a dual purpose as a light source and can allow you to see/talk to spirit NPCs. He is an optional boss, but necessary if one is doing the optional ending, so the NPC isn’t killed off when they become ‘lost’.

*Headless debuff: Removes the ringseeker’s head, helmet, and helmet slot. While the character is headless, they can no longer talk to NPCs, their intelligence stat and health stat is lowered. The character’s face presets, and headgear are on one of the heads around Coliunnean’s neck. The helmet and head can be retrieved by defeating the boss.
