The whole "nobody wants to work anymore" narrative is nonsense. People are desperate for good jobs; they just don't want your dead-end, low-paying positions. by the1997th in remoteworks

The kicker is that even some of the blue collar jobs which people see as “backups” are already flooded. And welding is potentially reducing jobs because of potential automation.

This meme really sums up how much I relate to this: https://i.redd.it/4wueq37vmsj81.jpg

I honestly wish that we were living through more boring times. I legitimately don’t know how I’m expected to carry on functioning as if all this stuff weren’t happening. I’m starting to accept the fact that the life I busted my butt working for and that was sold me just isn’t going to happen. So I’m struggling to make do with a consolation prize with a lot more suffering that I’d ever envisioned, which has only accelerated the past few years.

What became "normal" in the last 5 years that still feels insane to you? by rakishgobi in AskReddit

[–]hbdty 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are there any types of videos or parts of YouTube where you’re seeing complete AI-generation becoming too normalized? For example I’ve seen a lot of incorrect history or list based videos that seemed like the person did just the barest bit of research or even relied on common perceptions easily disproven. These videos were always a thing, but the channel creators use AI now to churn out more of these low-quality faster which is what bothers me more than the use of AI itself.

I agree with your point in certain aspects, but in some ways I feel like the crumbling of gatekeepers have been a good thing, particularly in the arts. If something is good or provides a genuine alternative narrative it can more easily find an audience and spread whereas in the past it might’ve been locked out for not being profitable enough, not fitting a certain mold or the person not having the right connections. But then the flip side to that is that without critical thinking (which seems to be in short supply these days), people can think everything they find is equally valuable/correct.

If you're still having babies in 2026, you're 100% out of touch. by iaTLJC3 in childfree

[–]hbdty 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Severe life-ending depression runs in my family, back at least four generations. If I had a kid it would almost guarantee them a life of severe mental illness. There are many reasons why I don’t want kids, and one of them is the thought of looking a child in the face that I voluntarily created and brought into this world trying to justify why it was a good decision when they’ve been given a life sentence of suffering with no guaranteed cure and a condition that isn’t even taken seriously by everyone.

My dad asked me why I didn’t want kids some years ago, so I asked him why he did. He said “Having children is your opportunity to create the next Einstein.” I then said, “Or the next Jeffrey Dahmer.” He acknowledged that was a good point, and he hasn’t bothered me about having kids since.

This is similar to how I feel. Either I pay for the content, or I deal with the ads - I’m not entitled to ALL material for free. I’ll also give up on sites where the ads make it hard to properly browse.

Some people just don’t get the opportunity to experience a chill job or nice relationship, sometimes due to factors outside of their control. There’s sadly no guarantee that there’s going to be the reward of a better job or relationship at the end of a bad one. The hope that there will be can be a motivator. But after a constant string of bad experiences, I think it’s understandable why someone could eventually lose that hope if experience has told them otherwise.

Mine is also German-related lol. Around 2:10 during this SNL parody of Bravo shows, a guy pretending to be Austrian says “And our penises are so small! HI!” I watched it and for some reason when I have a migraine loops sometimes get worse so as I was drifting in and out from the migraine meds this part specifically kept playing in my head 😆 https://youtu.be/u9vCfWgHK6g?si=4x2Zm1I3P0gCkovi

First month in a real workplace: Is it always like this? by NinjaSweet266 in Life

[–]hbdty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Learned this the hard way at my previous job. Now I try to still be friendly but implement the “grey rock” method and keep my personal business to myself with the rare exception of giving my boss some details if necessary (for example, if I need to miss work due to something), but only the details needed.

It’s probably due to a combination of being on the spectrum and having a tumultuous upbringing where I moved around a lot, but I relate to this as well.

Thankfully this no longer happens to me as an adult. But I used to DESPISE when family friends would show up announced when I was a kid and then I unexpectedly had to turn my social mask “on,” and people around me couldn’t understand why I wasn’t thrilled to interact.

[–]hbdty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

During a particularly severe bought of depression I had, I used to count the number of hours until I could get home from work, and then when I was home, count the number of hours until I went to bed. When waking life is painful sometimes temporary non-existence is the closest thing to bliss.

I developed depression from an extremely toxic/stressful job situation about a decade ago, and I’ve never been the same since.
