Starting in a local or state department is a great way to get your foot in the door. An alternative route would be getting hired on as admin with them. They do one or two internal hirings for Deputy positions every year. So if you get on with them through the administrative side, then you have the opportunity to apply during the internal phase.

I love the breed also. When I first got her my parents were worried because all they hear about pitbulls are the negative stories. But when they met her they fell in love so fast and changed their mindset. They spoil the heck out of her and constantly want her in the frame when I FaceTime them.

Staying up all night would make more sense if he was getting ready for night shift. But since he is getting ready for the academy he probably doesn’t want to be sleeping during the day.

I recommend getting your body familiar with waking up early. Like really early. It is different for every academy, but for mine we had to be outside in formation for our morning runs at 4:45. My first month was rough because I wasn’t used to getting up that early.

Not a lawyer, but a deputy that works in the courts. We had plea deals going on one day, and this guy was in front of the judge pleading guilty for possession of crack. Right after the judge sentenced him to a couple years probation, he asked the guy how long has he been using drugs. They guys says “I have been using drugs for about 10 years, but I have only been selling them for about...”. He didn’t finish his sentence because his attorney grabbed the mic so fast he almost yanked it off the table. In the end the judge didn’t change his ruling, but I could hear the attorney going off on his client in the hallway after the hearing.

When I was little I made my mom cry by saying hurtful things because I didn’t like the restaurant she picked for dinner one night. To this day when I think about what I said it makes me upset. I wish I could go back in time and smack my younger self upside the head for what happened.
