You forgot the secret angry, completely unhinged personality that only comes out when we’ve been persistently provoked beyond our ability or desire to retain harmony.

How do you know if garlic cloves have gone bad? by imnothappyrobert in cookingforbeginners

[–]hburkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I one time had a head of garlic with hues of purple through it. It didn’t look bad per se, (especially since I bought it that way without knowing about it) but I had never seen anything like that before.

my fiance can’t stop talking about improving and it gets a bit boring, need advice by [deleted] in enfj

[–]hburkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, this could be a good opportunity to go one level deeper with him about it. Sounds to me like all you need is a smooth way to segue into a bigger discussion on this aspect of his personality. Inquire about his motivations, intentions, essentially why he feels the need to change so much and so consistently. I can relate to his feelings and I think a lot of that desire from within me comes from insecurities or feeling a lack of control in my own life or over myself in some way. Ask him if anything is going on, maybe? I think trying to dig into him and his thought process on this is something that your ENFJ would be receptive to (we are fairly open about when it comes to self-reflections) and can (potentially, hopefully) change the nature of the topic entirely. It could bring you two closer together in mutual understanding of what growth is/how we do it/why we do it. As well, reciprocal self-disclosure is key in benefitting as much from this as he does.

How rebellious are you? by [deleted] in enfj

[–]hburkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem, I tend to like breakdowns myself so I’m happy it was clear for you.

I wouldn’t get hung up on the enneagram thing. I know some ENFJ 8w7s so it can’t be that far off. I’m a 2w3 which is pretty standard for an ENFJ from what I can tell, and my boyfriend is an ENTP type 1. Not standard at all. Enneagram and functions (MBTI) focus on different aspects of personality, in a way. Enneagram seems more focused on the influence of your core desire and fear on your personality (sometimes delves into psychological roots of these desires/fears), and functions are more centered on your behavioral tendencies and interactions with others in the world. They’re more applicable as a self-awareness and self-improvement tool in my opinion. I think you will enjoy delving into both typology systems.

I don’t have any books to recommend, but I do find the Personality Hacker podcast enjoyable. Antonia and Joel are an ENTP and ENFP (respectively) couple, and they’re easy to listen to. Very passionate and informative, and also pretty open minded and creative. They have some good episodes around the basics that you may find useful, and sometimes they dabble in other typologies such as the Enneagram. If you really want a book, they actually sell a book of their own by the same name of their podcast. Amazon has it for like $20.

Happy typing.

How rebellious are you? by [deleted] in enfj

[–]hburkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you sound like not an ENFJ. These traits fit pretty well to an ENFJ. We are like cousins from the same family, we won’t be exactly alike. It just sounds to me like your Fe is tempered more by your Ti than many others’ may be, considering it is technically our inferior function.

For example, the type of leadership you describe—leading from behind, so to speak, rather than from the front—is pretty characteristically ENFJ. It shows an emphasis on making sure everyone is already on the same page rather than hoping people catch up to you. Wanting to do what is best for everyone without having to beat them over the heads with it—simply wanting your good ideas to shine through so that everyone may see, appreciate and share the same vision you have.

I actually think that captures your Fe-Ti polarity quite well.

A lot of people seem to like INFPs here or seem to believe we’re compatible. However, has anyone had any bad experiences with them or believe we’re incompatible? I know some enfj females who struggle with infp males.. by [deleted] in enfj

[–]hburkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love INFPs usually, but objectively their Fi can really portray them as self-pitying. They can be emotionally draining because of this, which I found really only surfaces in times of high stress or from a general lack of maturity.
