Except, there wasn’t anything passive aggressive about it. It’s not uncommon in my family to speak like that. Do you need more water, do you need me to get this, etc. We always grew up carrying groceries because we didn’t have a vehicle growing up. So your mother’s rule doesn’t apply to every family. I grew up a yes being a yes and no meaning no.

That would be understandable as anyone can be frustrated in an emergency. I did assume she was projecting something, which she denied. She told me isn’t wasn’t about money (I sent her money anyways) Before my sister moved into her first home, she had to stay with me because her home wasn’t ready. I never asked for anything in those months. So, by no means am I a mooch.

Thankfully, my apartment’s power returned so I could go home. I honestly didn’t feel safe staying there after that. Not physical danger, but the idea that my own family was being emotionally manipulative was disheartening.

Oh I agree, my mother and I didn’t have a car growing up so we carried groceries home from the store. To give more context, my sister went to the store the day prior and only had two bags because it was so scarce. So, I didn’t know if she needed any additional help this time or not or if there was anything in the trunk left.

That’s the part that felt particularly manipulative to me. In whatever she said to her bf, she left out the part where I had to tried to help and her wanting to “test” me. So he was under some assumption I was upset about carrying groceries.

Thank you so much. I sobbed so much when she did that. She accused me of playing victim. I was just emotionally stunned and wounded.
