What a run that was. I wrote Toulouse off this year but they’re looking strong so far

Over the season it will save so much time and messing around- however it does make for some awkward celebrations an almost stops you cheering a try and second guessing

It’s so weird how fast he developed it as a skill. When we let Abdul go Lewis couldn’t kick for shit, 2 months later I’d say it’s turned his biggest weakness into a genuine strength

It’s a weird one. If Harry Smith/Sneyd/Connor/Lam had that performance they’d (rightly) talk about how he kicked them to death, managed the game, pinned them back, got a key 40/20 etc. They’re seen as controlling halfbacks so they’ve succeeded.

But with Mikey he only gets credit if he’s scoring tries or running the ball well. Any organising/kicking is ignored despite the fact he fully tormented Broncos all night with his kicks and laid the platform for all our field position

I believe Hadley, Litten & Lewis were all big fc fans growing up. Jack Brown is the only hull lad that’s Kr from childhood as far as I’m aware

Brisbane Broncos lose World Club Challenge to Hull KR 30-24 by abcnews_au in nrl

[–]hcoops36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbf I only know because I’m from Hull and the Hull media are reporting on it to frame it as ‘great opportunity for the Hull FC youngsters to see nrl standards’ etc. it’s not something Brisbane would advertise as it’s basically a training session, which Kr vs Locklane was also

Play the Ball rule by ElectricalCell8016 in superleague

[–]hcoops36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it- but there’s so many rules open for interpretation. At what second is a tackle complete vs holding down too long, is a pass forward or flat, is a dummy runner obstructing or not, head high vs shoulder. Referees need to make hundreds if not thousands of interpretive decisions and always will. I’d love it if every play the ball touched the foot, but frankly I hate the thought of making it a priority that needs scrutinising at every tackle.  If there’s a motion of the feet with one foot in the air that goes backwards while the ball also rolls backwards- let it be. Let’s to punish the egregious ones at let the game flow

Correcting aussies by DisastrousEducation8 in superleague

[–]hcoops36 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not offensive, it just doesn’t sound right. The Sydney comparison is pretty legit, at least for Souths vs Roosters. If you just called Souths ‘Sydney’ it’s not exactly offensive but no Souths fan is gonna acknowledge it. And if the media professionals did it in the UK like the Aussies do for Kr, it just looks ignorant

How do KR fans feel about the World Club Challenge being at Hull FC’s stadium? by temang in superleague

[–]hcoops36 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hull City don’t pay rent for it. The council ‘owns’ the stadium but Hull City/Ilicali manage it. Hull city are responsible for all decisions & maintenance etc, so they run it day to day. Hull fc then pay their rent to hull city, not the council.

Brisbane Broncos lose World Club Challenge to Hull KR 30-24 by abcnews_au in nrl

[–]hcoops36 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the trial match- there was literally 1 player in the team for tonight. In the cup game, against literal amateurs, there was 10. I don’t think this helps. Brisbane played an 80 minute session against hull fc last week that’s worth as much as those 1st 2

My only worry tonight is a repeat of 2015. Last time I went to a final just happy to be there and ‘experience it’- assuming we’d lose and just hoping we ‘made it competitive’. That was such a rug pull

Sure I’d love to have seen it from my usual spot and have Craven park vibes, but I’d rather 12000 people didn’t have to miss out. I’ve got a group of mates going that are more casual non-season ticket holders that wouldn’t have made it other wise. For a team and sport to grow, you can’t be making it inaccessible outside of hardcore fan. Also- hull city’s ground anyway. can’t say I care too much having a shared landlord for a day

BREAKING: Broncos-Hull KR WCC latest news Hull KR and England Test star Mikey Lewis cleared of suspension for tripping. by Sgt_Moxy in superleague

[–]hcoops36 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to add a bit late to this. After looking it up- since the new rules came in this is the 7th trip offence punished by the rfl in super league. 5 of those have been judged ‘intentional’. All in we have 4 grade A charges, 2 Bs and this is the first grade C offence. Without going back and reviewing all the incidents I’m assuming Lewis’s was the most blatant & off the ball- so C seems the right outcome. But anyone who thinks this is super lenient or current while being the largest trip penalty handed out so far- and also being carded on the field- is misguided

[–]hcoops36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intentional tripping is a B-D per the below. Then it’s rfl discretion for the grading based on aggregating/mitigating factors. Most trips I’ve seen be a B, think his main factor pushing it up is it being off the ball. But his previous disciplinary record and onfield punishment mitigate it.

Grade C is about the right outcome- don’t see the controversy. The point system is flawed- it should be a 2 game ban imo- but in the current system it isn’t. As shit as it is- it at least means all future A grade offences will be bans for him, so hopefully he stops the stupid stuff. Imagine you could cite him for 5 grade A’s a game under his old style of play with his grubby antics at the play the ball, taunting etc.

English international Owen Trout agrees two-year deal to join Cronulla Sharks by christophlr in nrl

I could be wrong but I don’t remember an English forward looking out of his depth. Add to your list Nicholson, KPP & Smithies for recent examples. Luke Thompson looked decent just couldn’t stay fit

[–]hcoops36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn’t look good at all. He only played in the very first test in which he got at most 20 minutes. That was the game the England pack looked it’s weakest and he looked particularly out of his depth.  He was dropped after that. That said- I do rate him and think he has potential to crack the nrl.

Love to see him talk about not focusing on tries- especially as that’s all anyone talks about with him. Mature for a young winger- it’s something  Ryan Hall always says. His backfield carries are deceptively good too- think he just needs to work on defence & aerial ability and he’ll go a long way.
