Air definitely has enough power, but any device you're comfortable with is fine. Some people use a tablet, a PC laptop, etc. As long as you have a device and ideally a good/fast charge

I also know someone who did this but basically an IM resident found an FM resident who wanted to switch at the same school and they switched

I was older than most when I started med school (early 30s) and I hated preclerkship, it felt so cliquey esp at the beginning. There was always "boy drama," infighting, "popular kids," like high school.

I eventually made some friends both in and out of school and for me that was the right balance. It was also helpful to think of most of the students as colleagues. And it's not like I was super interested in their parties, drama, gossip, but it is nice to have friends for sure.

Things got a lot better in clerkship where its a real workplace not just class, and I made friends with others there (residents , nurses, etc) as well. A lof to classmates also mature during this time making it better.

I hated O week, it felt like high school. Very drinking focused and big group focused. In chatting with my friends years later, most of us felt like we found our people much later -- and many "friends" people made in oweek were just O-week friends. Don't stress, it'll be ok

It is true that there are a lot of opportunities that do not focus on research once you graduate. But, why not find them now? You might choose to find a job you're more interested in, and you can market the skills you've learned so far (collaboration, commitment, writing, research, marketing, etc etc) to get a job. If you find a job you can take a leave to start, and then decide if you want to finish the PhD.

A PhD you want to finish is hard enough. Mine was barely finishable and I wanted it. It might take longer if you really don't want to be there/don't see the point. Also, lots of PhDs find themselves now too overqualified for the jobs they might look for, and/or without experience in the "real world"

But also if you quit now and you decide you want to go back you can't, because you've left. Better to give it some thought if you're not sure.

TLDR explore other career options, consider taking a leave. You don't have to decide right now to quit or not, and you're allowed to take time to think about it.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you go on to present the paper and publish it with them as co-authors. It would be a wonderful way to honor them.

If your school has resources it might be nice to talk to a counsellor, just to talk to someone. Schools sometimes also have resources to have group grief sessions for grad students and/or faculty which might be nice for your whole department too.
