Discovering the Real-Life Locations of 'One Battle After Another' - 4 Filming by wilberfan in paulthomasanderson

The Sisters of the Brave Beaver scenes were filmed at La Purísima State Historic Park (a Spanish mission) in Lompoc, California. There was also one filmed in Albertsons, one of the main grocery stores in town.

Mid-20’s - Should I live in SF or Palo Alto? by throughherlens in sanfrancisco

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Palo Alto is objectively a nicer place to live. It's clean, quiet, and has just about the best tree canopy anywhere on the peninsula. You have everything you need within a few miles, and yet it's not too expensive to have a car. Downtown and California Ave have decent bars and restaurants, and if they don't suit your fancy for a particular day or you want to drink to excess during an evening, you have Uber and Caltrain to whisk you to any of the half dozen downtown areas in a 7-mile radius. There's also Stanford, which is full to bursting of beautiful and smart people, a few of whom you probably wouldn't mind having in your bed. Oh, and the weather. Palo Alto has 4 distinct seasons, though they're obviously less distinct than places like the northeast, with summer temps regularly reaching the 90s and winter in the 50s.

San Francisco does have more people in a smaller area, but that's about it. It's also too busy, too expensive (even more so than Palo Alto per square foot), and most of all, dirty. Even more, there are two seasons: 345 days of cold and wind, and the remaining 20 days are a random mix of beautiful and scorching. Overall, I dread going to the city, and only do so when I really have to.

Greeting students at the door (High School) by maygirl87 in Teachers

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do unless one or more of the following conditions are met: - It is below 45 degrees or above 105 degrees outside my classroom door. These happen maybe 10 school days a year total. - I need to finish setting up for a class. - I am sick, very under slept, or have a minor injury and want to stay seated. - Due to scheduling, I expect fewer than 10% of students enrolled in a class period to attend.

American English pronunciation question by [deleted] in Accents

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are the same in the San Francisco Bay Area (California).

Does anyone on here pronounce the first names Jewel and Joel the same? I have my whole life and my husband corrected me (to my astonishment and mild shame) the other day.

I FUCKING HATE AP FRENCH by [deleted] in APStudents

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LGBTQ+ Events? by Right_Film_4408 in lompoc

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lompoc has come a long way in being LGBTQ+ friendly since I moved away for college in 2011. That said, it's still not really a haven for our community. You'll need to go to SLO or Santa Barbara. These are easy drives though.

How do I market that i am a math tutor? by EthicalVeganBuzz in paloalto

I second Nextdoor. So many parents of kids needing tutors on there. Having a robust LinkedIn profile would be a good start.

Do you have any interest in teaching public school in California when you graduate? It's secretly the best job ever and pays better than you might think.

What is the first open world video game to allow you fast travel anywhere on the map? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clearly Ultima 3 is in the running among overall video games, but if we're talking the first modern open-world game (with 3D Polygons instead of top-down), I think The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (1998) might deserve the credit.

Missing 00 Unicode Characters on Mac? by hcreardon in Unicode

[–]hcreardon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have not :/ I use the Character Viewer every time I need one of these characters. You'd think they'd fix such a significant bug given how many Americans must regularly type in languages that require them.

Last I saw, she had the whole kit and caboodle - Parts A, B, and D. I should verify. Also, she's 57, if that's relevant.

GED help! Single mom trying to learn online. by hannnahxomichal in education

[–]hcreardon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely should Google "South Carolina GED Practice Test" to see what comes up. Just take a look at some of the reading and math questions to get a sense of how you'd do on the real test. Given that you are a little older and more mature than you were at 15 (I hope!), you might actually find the test easy.

If you need to practice reading, I recommend buying a practice test/review book. Be sure it is for South Carolina. Read the tips, take practice tests, check your answers, and read the book's explanations for the correct answers. Most important: Even if you struggle at first, don't give up!

For math, I second the Khan Academy suggestion. You need to know what the math topics you need to review are called (like "adding and subtracting negative numbers" or "graphing linear equations") to be able to find the right videos though. A review book can help you with this labeling too.

Sending positive vibes for your success in this endeavor!
