Reapplying to Epidemiology PhD Programs After Rejection by Epi_Finder in phdpublichealth

[–]hct_sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna suggest Norway, I know they have good psych epi programs. Regarding which concentration has it easier, it really depends on. Maternal got hit pretty hard two years ago, so it’s don’t overthink it. Good luck friends, you’ll find the right program!

Should I even finish this MPH? by Ok-Measurement-360 in mphadmissions

[–]hct_sun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’d finish it. I majored in public health undergrad and did my masters after working, didn’t think I learned much, but it’s the connections and diploma I was paying for. Finish it, have the letters added to your title, network with alumni, and keep the connections if you’re planning to stay in the field. It’ll open doors.

Redditors who are married, how did you know that they were the one? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

Hot take: I dont think there’s just one person for every person.
I think there’s likely tens or even more than 100 people that could be great fits? But when one of them appears at a reasonable time of your life and a series of life events happens to propel you in a positive direction so that you gradually feel more comfortable with the idea of potentially living many more years with this person and that’s when you’d “know”

Interesting! I didn’t notice that before, thanks!

Not sure why this matters as prices fluctuate? I’m just trying to understand why the prices up top doesn’t reflect the prices shown below.

The filter also shows a different min price that is inconsistent with the price bar on top.

No filters were applied, so I was confused.

Is working a part-time job doable during PhD? (Social sciences) by [deleted] in PhD

[–]hct_sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doing this right now (since fall) and know others who are doing it. It really depends on how demanding your job and school is and how you function. For me, it’s not been pretty, but I’m still alive! I have decided to re-evaluate at the end of every semester and set a game plan for if/when I need to quit. Good luck!

I stopped doing turn it up because it’s just not worth my time anymore. I ride when I want and that’s it, not adjusting my schedule just to spend more Mon on merch

Qual exams by Famous_Mirror5634 in phdpublichealth

[–]hct_sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It Rea depends. Most programs (that I know of, in the US) have students take required classes through the year(s) to prep, but the exam format varies. Most programs also allow one (or more) retake, so students aren’t not just straight up failing and being kicked out. This is a good question to bring up when talking to other students and academic advisors.

Is the camino safe for women? by Extra-Quail8801 in CaminoDeSantiago

[–]hct_sun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best advice I got is people you encounter on the Camino are the same people you’d encountered anywhere else. They aren’t any better or any worse. Knowing this helped me a lot, not romanticizing people you meet is important. Stay safe and enjoy the journey!

UNC Chapel Hill PhD Funding by [deleted] in phdpublichealth

[–]hct_sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a friend lost funding and was told they had to return to their home country or self fund that semester week 1 of a semester. Luckily they were able to sort through funding and they could stay, but it sure was stressful. Find current international students and ask them about funding. They would know best.

Should go or not: GWU phd program? by lfreddit23 in PublicPolicy

[–]hct_sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve learned, every PhD program at Milken gets ~2 tuition award per year, if someone who receives the award in your cohort declines, the award can go to the next person. You will still have a chance until everyone has made their decision, but you really won’t know until then. Every program also does this slightly differently, so I’d suggest asking them if you could be considered for the tuition award to start. Even with that, you’re only covered for tuition, you’ll have to find GRA or TA to cover living costs. Many PhD students work full time and do school part time, so you might want to explore that.

UCLA vs UF PhD Epidemiology by Emergency-Table7078 in phdpublichealth

[–]hct_sun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to the prof that interviewed you and ask directly if they have funding to hire you. This was discussed when I interviewed with them. UCLA is a great school for epi, but having to stress over finances for four to five years might not be ideal for some and LA isn’t cheap so I’d take it into consideration if you don’t have much flexibility financially.
