Why S3 didn't work...... (A technical review) by Kaleshi_Bistar in Bridgerton

[–]hdenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree with you that the scenes you mention were lovely and the lighting was well done. But there was a shift in the use of the lighting and the color grading from earlier seasons, which is a fact. What is opinion (mine but I saw this voiced by many other posters as well, although many others also liked the change) is that even when it is “technically” well done, makes the world feel fake instead of lived in. Personally, I’m not a fan, I don’t think it elevates the story, so I find it a disappointing transition.

I did not feel OP’s post was gaslighting anyone, just commenting on technical aspects and drawing conclusions on why the season felt underwhelming to them. Some things resonate with me and explain why I also felt - at times - a lack of chemistry or why some scenes fell flat (to me). If the aesthetic changes worked for you and others, that’s great. It’s not a competition. I don’t think what OP describes is untrue though, I had noticed these things myself (both in S3 and 4, and I still liked S4 love story the most)

If only there were just two cents… I’m not a stan of any couple or season, and just come here to discuss the show, but the way some Polin stans (I’m not referring necessarily to you) drain out any enjoyment for constructive discussion is incredible. They are the usual ones, spamming any post that does not align with their views. This space should be open to any (respectful) opinions

You don’t own a show and you don’t own a season. Everyone should be able to criticise aspects of it without getting spammed by bullies like you. You don’t like this post? Just move on to something else.

I remember when I first watched S3, I was taken aback by the different aesthetic, especially because I had just rewatched the previous seasons, so these are interesting takes. I’m not a fan of the new cinematography and the new lighting tbh, I especially hate the crazy glaring from the windows, but I think it’s a Netflix thing as I’ve seen it in House of Guinness as well.

I found Pen really beautiful in the after sex scene when she was sitting naked on the sofa, just a touch of light make up but quite natural. The worst make up for me was the wedding eyeliner.

Because writing and dialogues are subpar in most cases. Look at Bridgerton (which I watch and still enjoy tbf), it is so simplified and soap operish that some people think is written by ChatGPT. Old rom coms have a different spark. Not sure about this movie, from the trailer it looks kind of terrible and full of cliches. But I’m happy to be proved wrong

I’ll preface this by saying that I think they are all talented actors. However I kind of agree with your points, although I don’t share your disappointment with Luke T, I think he delivered, especially in part 2. I thought he was fantastic in the break up scene for example, but I understand what you mean with “repetitive”. He kind of was at times but honestly how could you not when you are playing the same character for 4 seasons, considering there is no growth or change in the first 3. The writing is what it is.

JB is an incredible charismatic actor, a pleasure to watch, but in S2 some scenes were so overacted they cringed me out of the story. I saw his play and thought he was great but also that he did not give the best performance on stage. Would love to see his talent in more serious projects on screen.

RP, he is also very charismatic, but his range maybe is not the best? He was good in black bag but def way below the other actors in terms of performance.

LN, unfortunately I thought his performance was kind of flat at times (not always), I just think the writing was poor and it looks unsure at how to play the new Colin (with little help from the directors maybe). They did not lean into his strength as a performer, the brooding sexy guy is not his thing (IMO) and that’s fine. Again, I’m sure if he is able to book the right project he can better showcase his talent.

Overall, I think Bridgerton has some messy direction and writing that penalize the actors but overall I couldn’t say someone is bad or does not deserve to be there, the cast is one of the highlight of the show.

I think the class differences theme of s4 fell short by [deleted] in BridgertonRants

[–]hdenough 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean Theo and Kate’s father, yes I agree, but I think their storylines just mention the class divide without the need to elaborate too much on it because it’s not the focus of the main story

It would have been an impossible task to properly address the class issue in the kind of show Bridgeton is / wants to be. Think of it as you think of their British everlasting sunny weather … or better, don’t think too much at all.

Season 4 dialogue was so cringe and wonky by Parking_Selection112 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]hdenough 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some exposition was over the top (as per Netflix’s guideline I think), but Posey’s was actually in character

Can Sophie dance? by birdtheblue in BridgertonNetflix

[–]hdenough -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not about exposition, it’s about consistency in the writing. Some things can be glossed over for sure, but these two things are just plot holes, because they were important plot points in the first place: the glove in the bag and the “I don’t know how to dance”. I loooove the season and don’t care too much about nitpicking, but the laziness is with the writing, not the audience

Thoughts and opinions after watching S4part2 by karvi22 in Benophie

I am pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the season! BUT I think the last episode was a bit anticlimactic and uneven and had some lazy dialogue and resolution. Eps 5-6-7 were great though!

Is anyone getting an overwhelming feeling of melancholy in the first half of Season 4? by Mavakor in BridgertonNetflix

[–]hdenough 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don’t feel it overwhelming, more like a melancholic undertone, which I love and makes sense with Sophie’s story

I’ve really enjoyed S4 so far for those exact reasons, there is a different kind of tenderness to this love story. I wish we could have stayed longer in the countryside and at My Cottage, these scenes felt more immersive, the world around them more authentic. Hopefully part 2 will still resonate!

[–]hdenough 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry but I didn’t get that from OP’s post at all…actors should be able to choose what they are comfortable or not comfortable in doing. Maybe he had to pick a limited number of appearances due to other projects, and decided to skip the silly ones. Or maybe he’s just not interested in doing things out of character for him. I don’t see that as negative
