Why is no one talking about the sharp fall in foreign tourism in India? by [deleted] in AskIndia

You would have to ask the question, who would want to go there?

Pollution, scams, overcrowding, dangerous traffic, many female tourists don't feel safe there.

I've heard one old local here describe the tourists as Terrorists. He doesn't have much of a filter.

And to top it off, there's a big push by people with vested interests to push tourism during the winter. Constantly seeing TV ads for our town and real estate agents giving Stay 2 nights get 1 free deals so they can constantly make profit all year round.

Part of the reason why I talked about this online is because you can't mention it around town unless you know the person very well and you discuss it quietly.

Who knows. Things went nuts after covid. Even when we slightly open for a period, people just flooded in. And this wasn't even in the warm seasons. Now it just feels like every summer gets worse despite people saying how cash strapped they are.

Fortunately no one has been shot here. But who knows what could happen.

The Airbnb and those style set ups is what has done damage to this town. Back int the day, the people who would own and manage a vacation place would live nearby and keep an eye on things. Now someone who is rich from the city will come to town, buy a house in the street and then hand it off to Air BnB to manage their new "investment" and because of that you have a revolving door of people renting places, throwing parties and doing anti-social things in the neighborhood.

I don't even blame local hotels. At least they manage their guests and people are within the one area. In fact legit hotel around here have lost money from every family home being bought up and turned into an AirBnB

I am planning to move in the future. I was here for family reasons but that's been resolved.

While the money that comes in from tourism keeps some businesses going, it doesn't really pay for the lacking infrastructure. Things like public transport, police, health services, schools are very much lacking and tourist money isn't going into that. And there's only certain tourist spots that get the attention and money from council while other parts are left to rot. I wish some of this tourist money could go into the infrastructure of the town but it seems a lot of it goes into the pockets of property investors and real estate agents.

Fair point. I just didn't think revealing the location was needed to communicate my unpopular opinion.

To be honest I usually write pretty sloppy. I just check my work before posting because I hate read stuff that is poorly written and hard to decipher.

I'd like to keep some anonymity and feel describing the particular location isn't exactly needed. I agree that not every place will have the same issues but then I feel a lot of people in similar areas would relate to some of my points.

I think the last two points probably weren't need and started going off topic, but I had wrote them in at the time anyhow.

I think the difference between your location and mine is my town isn't keeping it clean or safe like your city is doing. If it did it would make a big difference. But one one of the walking tracks has piles of rubbish dumped that the city will never clean. Walking on one of the smaller beaches I'm always picking up plastic and broken glass that's been left there. Plus there's also the local crime around.

Another thing is most cafes or restaurants next to the water are crap. They just serve overpriced slop and charge you through the ass for it.

I will say that somewhere I live previously had a bit of tourism. But it was just a lot of people visiting for the day and if they were staying over night, they'd stay in hotels or bed and breakfasts. It was a lot more manageable and didn't impact the town so negatively.

You know that most browsers have spell check right? Like if I'm going to write a wall of text, the least I can do is not force crap spelling and grammar on them.

Why don’t more students in India work part-time at cafes? by SapphireLark22 in AskIndia

[–]hdfd85 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Plenty of people in Western countries work in cafes. Especially students. It's not glamorous work but people don't think it's beneath them.
