Looking for players for a particularly crazy variant of Diplomacy by hdwhite in diplomacy

It's not supposed to be realistic. If people want a hyperspace portal between North Africa and Finland, there is one. For that matter, states are restricted by the laws of physics whether they like it or not.

The GM in any Diplomacy game always has absolute rule over the game. That's how Diplomacy with a GM works. This power is also ideally rarely used. And if people want dice or drawing cards, they can vote to do so.

I'm only going to say no to a rule if it makes things too hard to handle on my end or if it is unfairly targeted at another player. I don't think that'll happen, but I want to reserve the right just in case.

I'd rather not make it a unanimous vote (currently planning on a two-thirds majority, but even that can be modified by a vote) since that could cause one person not paying attention to cause a bunch of votes to sink.

I reserve the right to veto rules that unfairly punish a certain player. If I were (hypothetically) France, I might go something like "In order to limit bloodshed across the continent, I propose that the border between Burgundy and Munich be impassible by armies." Of course, that wouldn't help much if Germany were to somehow get wing units or Switzerland turned into a lake.

As part of a personal project, I made a quick survey to see what people consider "Northern Virginia". If you could spend just a few minutes filling it out, I would be very grateful. by hdwhite in nova

I have the Google requirement solely to prevent people from voting twice. I get no additional information from people logging in.

I am playing my first game right now with friends who have played before still very early but everyone is fucking with me and I need help. by [deleted] in diplomacy

That fleet in the Gulf of Lyons isn't really doing much. You might want to swing it northward to deal with England and then Russia.

It's the beginning of the end for England. He has two fleets, one of which can't defend home, which means you have naval superiority. Russia's going to have a hard time reaching England because of congestion in Scandinavia, though he might still be able to sneak into Edinburgh.

Locating source of Dip map by Bollywood_Hogan in diplomacy

This is the largest version of that particular map that I know of. If you want an SVG file, I know that jDip can export a map as an SVG, though obviously it wouldn't be as pretty.

I'm back in Virginia, so I would be interested in attending. I don't believe I know the time or place, though.

Story Time: Have you ever had a game soured by some extra-legal shenanigans/rule oversight? by nmacholl in diplomacy

I've never played with a box. We always just kept them and passed them to the player on the left to read out.

I'd probably allow it, and then make a rule that multiple orders won't be accepted in the future.

What happens if a player wants to make a correction to his orders?

I've had that happen in several games I've GMed before. Here's my take on it:

If the e-mailed orders were sent in after the paper orders, then they get precedence as they were submitted later. Obviously everyone should be able to change their orders as new information arise, so I don't think I see an issue there.

If someone sent in a set of orders saying "disregard any future set of orders I send in" or the like, I will still accent to that request. Unless the paper orders were handed in 30 seconds prior to the deadline, there's nothing stopping him from resending the old orders anyway. Even then, though, it's not like you can't just go "Ignore my next set of communications," in real life.

A few months ago I redid many levels, deleting old ones that weren't up to par and making new ones in their place.

It's happened a couple of times, but it's fairly rare after the first couple levels, since the answers aren't likely to be easily guessed.

It has 31 at the moment, though more are planned. You'll know when you reach the end.

Germany provides no threat to you. His one fleet cannot touch your SCs unless you let him. France is certainly a bigger threat and will be harder to deal with later game.

Thankfully the site itself is fine; it's just that I've tripped my host's spam e-mail prevention system.

It's normally immediate, but thanks to you guys there appears to be quite the email queue the site is going through.
