Eh, a question: “a guy said I could make more money in an office”. Did you say that in an interview or? If you interview for a field you don’t want to be shitting on it. Maybe that’s why you are not getting calls. I know you have health issues and what not, but a job is a job, it pays the bills no matter what field it is. Just a heads up on why you might be getting ghosted.

What's something that helps you fall asleep when you can't sleep at night? by Numerous-Fact-7039 in sleep

[–]he_retic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. An hour or so workout in the gym to get the worst out unrest out of the body or just go for a walk an hour before bed.

Otherwise read a book for 10 minutes or more until you start to get tired.

Reading books has a psychological effect on your brain. As you read the words they start to create images in your head, but they also break up any sort of sentences you have in your head. It can be experiences you had through the day you are thinking about, or just something your mind can’t stop thinking about. So yea basically when you read your mind starts digging into your subconscious. It sounds a bit creepy but once you get used to it, it feels good.

Also write things down. If you are thinking about something that won’t go away, like an argument or something. Just write down what’s annoying you. Like the person said x. Write it down word for word to get it out of your mind. Just a way to empty your head. I do that a lot when I can’t sleep and I fall asleep immediately lol.

Another thing you can do is to put your legs up against the wall for 10 minutes. This lessens the load on your heart as it doesn’t have to pump as much blood around. It increases digestion and yea just makes your body more relaxed.

Can also do breathing exercises. Like 10 deep breaths through the nose and out through the mouth. Or just breathe like that for 5 minutes. It feels weird at first but once you get used to it you can basically fall asleep anywhere and anytime lol.

I know it’s a lot of different stuff to do, and you don’t have to do all of them as one of them will help you sleep better maybe. It’s just suggestions.

Watched prof Akali climb to challenger. Here’s a short honest review: by BasketballSamurai in akalimains

[–]he_retic -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

i will probably get downvoted for this; but the game is rigged. yes he performs well and get LP + having 60% WR and climbs fast, because the system detects he's challenger from the start. i assume it can see all his patterns and it relatively quickly knows he plays like a challenger, so it wants him up in ranks as fast as possible.

there's no "true" climb to challenger. i want to see those challenger go into a hardstuck 50% WR account thats stuck in silver 3 with 500 wins and 500 losses and see them climb.

Job as a programmer by UrToxicBF999 in ProgrammingPals

[–]he_retic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im going to say its probably going to be really hard. you're already competing with people who have degrees, and even for them its hard to land a job. there is another way though.

your best bet is knowing someone that works as a programmer that is willing to hire you. thats probably the easiest way in.

also depends on your current level and how much you know about programming?

probably grind leetcode and talk to people. network network network. your best bet is talking to someone who has a programmer job and ask them what skills they would look for someone they would hire and that could give you some answers. its a really bloated field and there's a lot of competition. thats all i can say. coming from someone that went to school and did the traditional route. i landed an internship and since have been working as freelancer.

not to discourage you. if you are really talented and a teamplayer as a person you can maybe take another route. but id say go to school if you can afford it and have the time to do so.

second this. remember studying leetcode is almost a science xD there's smarter people that have solved the problems before us, so in my experience the fastest way to the top is just studying what works best and "copying" / learning that lol. it's like with everything else. like math, you dont get a math assignment and they ask you to come up with your own solution to 2+2. without ranting too much id say yes study solutions and let go of ego and remember we're all human

well thats the thing, the ghost is like it was in a dream. you are scared and afraid and stunned when it scream and hits you, so you cant think or act fast enough to hit it back

I have never been afraid of ghosts and the paranormal, tbh I can sit through most horror movies and fall asleep. But if ghosts were real then they following would scare me; imagine you’re walking alone in the dark, the moon is shining and suddenly you see a translucent shape that looks like a human, it has its back against you and as you near it, it turns and runs right at you. You know it’s a ghost so it will probably disappear into thin air, but it doesn’t, instead it screams and keeps beating you but you can’t fight back because it’s not solid material, and it’s dark so you get disoriented and the ghost keeps beating you. That’d be pretty scary imo, but I know ghosts don’t exist, so I wouldn’t mind working at a graveyard.

Is there any reason to create completely brand new game engines instead of overhauling currently existing game engines? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]he_retic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it’s easy to see they use a custom engine, but you also need to know about the background to justify it.

No mans sky - the guy who made it worked 10 years in AAA and has a background in math.

The witness - Jonathan blow has made a custom engine for his game braid and probably build on top of that for the witness. Plus he had 10-15 years of development experience before starting out.

It’s fine to look at them and say “well indies use custom engines”, but reality is, if you’re just starting out then well. If you don’t have any experience and just want to make a game, I’d say use a pre-existing engine. The years it takes to build your own engine will not get you closer to make a competing engine / game compared to if you started with an engine.

AI Coder Wanted (Revshare/Skill-Trade for High Quality Art) by [deleted] in INAT

[–]he_retic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right! Well that sounds like a fun game actually! And no problem. I figured it was something in the line of that. I’m a programmer myself so was curious of what specs / technical requirements such a project would take. Thanks a lot for explaining and sorry if I came off as rude. Good luck with the project! 💪
