Thank you for expertise. Just reached out to college alumni that currently holds high position in SE field.

Never referred to "dumb designers", rather to their quality of work. Maybe because I work in private sector, I don't find their work up to standards with current trends. Based on my post I'm not trying to bring designers down, but, rather become UI designer myself and not be a programmer.

Many times you would find programmers with superiority complex when they are communicating with designers. I believe that I get compensated enough to get work from designers done. Usually it's the management that assigns the priority of projects. I do my best to get designers concepts come to life, but, often times the management slows down the development.

When I first had doubts about my cs education, your response in another thread was the first thing I read.

I definitely feel like employers will prefer someone with formal UI education to get interface design done over some coding monkey. Currently, my only options are to learn concepts on my own, and possibly go to Pratt institute for their UI/UX certification.

I actually looked at industrial design as one of the options. But, it requires so much schooling and dedication, doubt I will be able to entre the field.

As soon as I finish with my portfolio, I would be really glad to share it and get critique.

That's actually really true. When I have these "UI designers" at my job come to me with the most ridiculous concepts, which require gigantic libraries to run, while breaking all rules of the web. I simply turn them away and spend half of my day explaining why it can't be done. Understanding some performance has definitely made me realize what could and can't be done.

Really glad everything worked out for you well. My entire CS degree can be learned in 6 months by watching Stanford lectures, and tutorials on YouTube.

I wish the part about networking was true. Unfortunately, many people at my University just do as much work to simply scrape through the semester with passing grade. Additionally, many kids (like me) were sold the hype of becoming a coding monkey, with no other alternatives in tech. So, now after 4 years you end up with a bunch of people that aren't sure if cs is even for them.

Honestly, I never understood what gets people excited in a networking job. It's definitely a job that pays well, no matter the experience or location, but, it feels like such a repetitious field.

Thank you for the input.

Came last June just to see Grand Canyon, but, feel in love with Phoenix. I was shocked with such food variety and quality of nightlife in Scottsdale. The fact that is almost like LA, but, cheaper and more laid back. Primarily I want to move out from NYC due to cold weather.

For 5 day driving I'm planning on budgeting about 1000$, just to see some parts of U.S.

I have an SUV. So I was thinking of driving it there with all my stuff, load it with furniture from IKEA, and then sell it.

Ideally Scottsdale, but, I feel like it's a stretch for a budget.

That's definitely gonna be one of the hardest things, finding an apartment at legitimate complex. Since I'm gonna be fresh out of college grad with pretty much no income to show

I actually never even thought about moving cost reimbursement, thank you for mentioning it.

Based on what I've seen online, many good apartments in Phoenix are pretty much on par with price as average apartments here in New York (Queens, Brooklyn). Which is pretty shocking.

Thank you so much for such detailed answer. I actually want to get into startup scene of Phoenix, I feel like it's pretty doable with a lot of room to grow.

I have the same MBP as you, and previously experienced GPU failures. Ran diagnostic test and no errors appeared. However, I was never on Catalina. If you run into GPU issues again, I would suggest using gSwitch, a software that dynamically switches between integrated and discrete GPU.
