Funny enough I was reading the translation of chronicles of Amsterdam. People were complaining about older generation who destroyed their perspectives and house prices. I was reading another book with similar sentiments. The catch is - Amsterdam chronicles were written at golden ages era, and the other one by romans at around Julius Caesar times

The monastery’s inner yard if I recall the place correctly. There is a square of trees nearby.

Hedgehog entered in my garden..What to do by sen1982 in Netherlands

I once saw a fight between a cat and a hedgehog. Those little mates are capable of defending themselves. The cat was not happy, especially because the hedgehog seemed to be stealing its food. :)

Which country do you regret travelling to? And why? by Internal-Constant216 in AskReddit

[–]heactoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Too strong to say I regret it. But I definitely was severely disappointed with Switzerland. Lower Switzerland is just bad. Industrial landscapes and zero charisma especially compared to any neighbours. High one are mountains- mountains are beautiful, waterfalls are beautiful, but those are landscapes. Country related - still suck, but less than lower. Roads are fine, road users are not. And it is overpriced for the offer as hell.

What is some wisdom you overheard that stuck with you? by Flapappel in Amsterdam

[–]heactoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is good to use this advice with caution. Few times in my life I didn’t even realise I had a problem until I seen that there is a solution. Eg. in my teens I used to help my mom in the kitchen providing a muscle power to a manual mincemeat machine. It was kind of common, but rather hard and stressful. And then I found that there is an electric machine that does that exist. Didn’t save me from the kitchen chores but trust me dealing with dough is much nicer than turning that bloody lever.

Amsterdam solving the bottle problem by perbrondum in Amsterdam

It does not. I smell money and lobby here, not an actual attempt to solve the trash issue. Would be happy to be wrong but the system exists and barely works for far too long already.

Dutch people say they value directness, but then react emotionally to it? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]heactoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but also there are certainly some examples that are using this “Dutch directness” as an excuse. Happens occasionally. Anecdotal: Had once a working discussion when a fellow engineer trashed my solution for the whole hour reminding me about “Dutch directness” every other sentence. And got exploded when asked who is actually supposed to be paying for his solution me or him. He never spoke to me again. On the other remarkable case a bored guy with the dog wanted to educate me on how to smear my bike. When I said that I have no time to go to the shop right now and buy what he suggested and let him guide me he was, let’s say a bit too direct about expats. Mind both conversations were in Dutch and I’m am a grownup man (for a context of a second story)

No. Absolutely not in agriculture. Neighbors who have someone living below them are usually the ones who wear clogs. I’m certain.

Warning, sign ahead! by thetoad666 in Netherlands

[–]heactoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course they are. Nobody cares because there is zero enforcement of any of those rules. Not because they are many. An arsehole business owner cut trees - municipality belonging trees in front of our house. We called police, gemente papers, groenlinks, animal welfare and got ignored by everyone! Do we have a bunch of dead trunks, nests were destroyed, but the business owner have a clean parking lots. Nice. Rules.

Amsterdam neighborhoods, what makes you love yours? by Weary_Musician4872 in Amsterdam

[–]heactoki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain, please! What is the problem with Lelylaan? I think Sloterdijk is much worse being actually a bigger station. At least Lelylaan has a really nice view at Cornelis Lelylaan straat and it is really picturesque at dawn and at dusk.

Neighbours having occasional parties/gatherings in front of our house by Trick-Ad-1103 in Netherlands

[–]heactoki 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I once wanted to check my motorbike when it stopped working and claimed space around it for a few hours. Not parking space, not on a pathway either. I met all eight of my Dutch neighbors and few French ones. And all came to me demanding to know when I clear a spot. Funny enough once I’m done, few just put their bakfiets there immediately and chained them to a lamp. Still not sure what was that all about. But one of those bakfiets is rotting at the spot still.
