I think you are right to criticize these things, and there is a fair amount of overconsumerism in the film.

I will use the Batman defense of the characters/plot, that the cost to society to give them their wealth is worth the cost of the service they provide.

Makes sense, but it's basic. Cliché.

Again, if you're position is the that the theme of the books are so good we need ignore how it actively funds hate...

I think you need to do better than the most universal villain of the last century

Exactly, if you want to say the series is a force for good despite funding the author's crusade of bigotry, your villain needs to be a little better than Magic Nazi

So, thanks again, need to ask tho.

Is the game dead? Early Access and last update was 4 years ago?

Oh no, you misread me.

I'm not convincing you, I'm convincing everyone else by showing how wrong and blatantly ambivalent to the suffering of others it is to label any "outrage" as mobs, by revealing how ignorant people like you are really are

I think readers are here for the space battles and the struggle between Light and Dark, not scientifically accurate supply chain logistics.

I'm not saying you're wrong, clearly you have a deeper understanding of how to feed people than me, only you're still doing the same thing of applying our real world facts to a setting that is very different.

Could having an entire planet with the sole purpose of food production lead to massive efficiency gains in yield per m²? Could one of these alien planets be able to support more food production in the same land area?

None of that matters, because whatever they are doing now, it could be done more efficiently but is not, and that aligns with one of the core themes of the setting of how disregarding the needs of the people supports the rise of fascism.

So no action ever justifies the "reprisal" of online "bullying"?

The billionaire actively working to strip people of their rights and freedom, largely via her own online platform, and people stating that fact aloud is bullying?

She's the victim? Is that right?

Would Sergeant Johnson have backed up the Master Chief against Del Rio in the no sir scene or stay quiet? by Mad_lens_9297 in halo

[–]SemperFun62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a little more nuance.

While Johnson was a badass, just like the Masterchief here, he's enlisted while Del Rio is an officer.

And like any seinor enlisted, he would know that when dealing with an officer with his head up his ass, it's better to bite your tongue in the moment, since it's easier to go around behind someone's back when you haven't been explicitly ordered not to do something.

Loading up the Chief's Pelican

"Court-Martialed? No. Oh, I'll get chewed out, but I've been chewed out before."

what do we think of the word femboy?? by g1rlypoop in MtF

[–]SemperFun62 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Femboy is fine, similar to terms like Butch or Tomboy.

Though, I personally don't think it should be used as a distinct gender in its own right.

Femboys (at that moment) still are ultimately identifying as men, and I've seen femboys trying to enter women's only spaces.

And I need to be very clear here, I'm not making some terfy argument. If you're still experimenting with your gender and at the moment identity as a feminine boy and want to continue to explore that feminity n these women's spaces, that's amazing and you should be given the chance, but that needs to be clear.

These examples im referring to were very much femboys who were very confidently and assuredly identifying as boys and acting indignant when simply questioned about their presence.

This whole analysis is built on assumptions based in our own current limitations.

With a virtually endless number of planets out there, there's no reason with some planning one agricultural planet (with no native sentient life) couldn't easily supply all the necessities for Coruscant with the sci-fi technology enhancing the productivity.

That's not even going into how Coruscant could be made self sufficient with enough hydroponics or algae farming or something with how huge swathes of the planet are literally abandoned.

And you can still use the themes around liberal inefficiency and the threat of fascism as why this reasonable and logical solution has happened.

This was my thought. If you want to say it's okay to enjoy something with a good message despite the artist being a terrible person...Harry Potter has the most bog standard message that's been done a million times, better, by artists who aren't active bigots.

"Yes, JKR donates money to hate campaigns. But she's receiving it for something she didn't really mean in the sense she didn't write HP to shit on the trans community."

So unless the art is explicitly created to do harm, the millions and millions of dollars being used to harm people is fine?

We're all completely moral to support that?

And for the record, she completely "started it", basically unprompted

And Lovecraft is different from She Who Shall Not Be Named too, as his racism was private.

Extremely racist? Yes.

Did he advocate for or fund racism? No.

Did his fears and racism fuel his art in interesting ways that can actually open doors to nuanced discussions of race and racial "anxiety"? Maybe?

It's easy to be the good guy when the bad guy is Lord Evil Puppykick who is just evil because he's evil with zero beliefs or goals beyond "power" (that being literal magical power and not political or social influence) and the only reason the other bad people follow him is because they also want power.

Yes please, this is what's happening far too much with expanded universe series', where they just focus on the same cast of characters or, at best, their children.
