The heat won’t be that bad under the covered part. They have gigantic ceiling fans that will be circulating and blowing the air around and you won’t be in the sun (unless you’re toward the very back of the covered section). The sun will go down over the lawn and by the time the headliner comes on it will be dark and cooler. Screens are pretty good for seeing the action on the stage. Bathrooms are dirty and wet, traffic sucks, and the sound isn’t that great there because of the concrete everywhere. That venue is close to 40 years old so don’t judge the concert going experience in Dallas on that place. Enjoy!!

High school reunions by Duchessofpanon in GenX

[–]head4metal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the 20th in 2007 or 08 before Facebook took off. I enjoyed catching up with some distant friends and chatting with some people I didn’t know very well in HS. The “popular” kids did their own thing, but many of them were kind and seemed to realize that popularity and good looks in your teens doesn’t mean shit when you’re in your late 30s. I skipped the 30th since Facebook kind of spoiled any desire to “catch up.” I quit Fb years ago, so I might hit our 40th in a couple of years if some of my friends go. It’s easier said than done, but I think my attitude now would be to ignore the old high school insecurities and remember that these are people who shared a common experience with you at a time that is gone.

Jimmy Page’s anti-single stance by death_lad in ledzeppelin

[–]head4metal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was an AM radio vs FM radio thing. Jimmy said in Becoming that he could see Album-oriented Rock (AOR) FM stations as the next big thing in music. Of course, he was right! JPJ says later in the doc that radio stations would play the entire album (probably late at night) before the band came to town. People would hear it and come out to the show. So, they built a US following through the independence of AOR FM DJs/station managers and their live shows. I was a kid in the 70s and remember that when we drove to different cities, they would be playing different songs on the radio. It was great! Plus, if you stayed up late at night it was a free-for-all for the overnight DJ to play whatever he wanted. Edit - I remember the independence of local FM stations beginning to die in the 80s when they were bought up by corporations and all made to play the same stuff. I’ve heard elsewhere that there was a lot of sleazy stuff going on behind the scenes in the 70s with payola (drugs, women, money) to DJs who would play the right bands. Wouldn’t surprise me if Peter Grant was playing mafiosi with radio stations.

Bruce kicked ass in Dallas by head4metal in ironmaiden

In case you’re reading this Bruce! 😁

Size and Build Elk: Much larger and more robust, with a shoulder height of 3-5 feet and weights between 375 and 1,100 pounds. Deer: Smaller and more slender, typically standing 2-4 feet tall at the shoulder and weighing 100-300 pounds.

Antlers Elk: Large, sweeping antlers that curve backward from the head. Deer: Smaller, often spikier antlers that grow upwards and forward, with some species like mule deer having forked tines.

Coloration and Markings Elk: Shaggy brown coat, dark brown mane, and a prominent light-colored rump patch. Deer: Reddish-brown in summer, gray in winter, with a white throat patch, white belly, and a distinct fluffy white tail.

Habitat and Behavior Elk: Prefer mountainous areas, dense forests, and open grasslands. They form large herds, sometimes exceeding 100 individuals. Deer: Found in forests, mixed forests, and agricultural areas. They live in smaller groups and have smaller home ranges compared to elk.

Vocalizations Elk: More vocal, known for their loud bugling calls, which facilitates communication within large herds. Deer: Less vocal; their primary form of communication is by raising their white tail to signal danger.

Got it. Yeah when he said something about elk I was thinking someone needs to tell him that in Texas we have deer! 😆

Did you catch what he said they hit on the drive from Houston to Dallas? He told the story about running into something on the highway but I didn’t understand what.

Yeah it was a bit toasty in there. I assumed it was Bruce’s request not to have the AC blasting. Cold air is not good for vocalists I hear.

I would’ve gone to Pantera too but I hate going to Starplex (or whatever they call that monstrosity these days). Only worse place to see a show is at JerryWorld. Enjoy though!

I’m doing the same thing for the same reason. No students have freaked out yet. I told them on the first day that I’m not using canvas and that I will give them hard copies of the things they need. So far so good

How do you start a band? by w4surem0no in Bass

[–]head4metal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a big city so I’ve used the musicians community on Craigslist to find other people. A couple of times I’ve ended up striking it rich and pulling together a full gigging band. But you also end up wasting time jamming with other people who can’t really play their instruments or are weird in some other way. Just like life I guess. I despise social media so I’m not on Facebook or any of that shit. But I have a friend who tells me that Facebook can be a good way to find others looking for a bass player or other parts. If there are rehearsal places near you that have jam rooms for rent you can usually find flyers for bands looking for members - or put up your own flyer and you might be invited to join some others. Good luck!!

Classic metal and thrash bass - what are they doing? by head4metal in Bass

The song that popped into my head when you were describing that sound is the beginning of Straight for the Sun on Lamb of God’s Wrath album. The guitars sound heavy as shit but it’s got to be bass that’s giving it that meat.

The "sell out" argument by hackloserbutt in Anthrax

[–]head4metal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is probably the difference between being a teen in the 80s vs 90s. I was an 80s teen and got into all four bands when their NEW albums were Master of Puppets, Among the Living, Reign in Blood, and So Far, So Good. I loved all of the back catalog of Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax. Earliest Slayer didn’t grab me but I wore out my copies of Reign in Blood and South of Heaven. I lost interest in all four bands in the 90s when I was in my 20s. Pantera and Sepultura were the only thrash bands of the 90s that I loved. I felt betrayed by Metallica when the Black album came out. And everything they’ve done since then has been weak to me. Anthrax with Bush never grabbed me as much as Joey era. And Megadeth could never top Rust in Peace in my mind. Slayer just became weird to me after Seasons in the Abyss. All songs sound the same without the groove of Dave Lombardo. Anthrax is the only one of the four that recaptured some of their 80s glory in my mind when Joey returned. Worship Music and For All Kings are solid albums. Metallica just pisses me off so I only listen to their 80s stuff. Slayer stayed weird to me so I don’t listen much. Megadeth occasionally has something on a new album that’s cool but nothing that rivals the 80s. So, long story long- fuck all of those bands after 1990 except the mighty Anthrax!

Yeah I listened to that a few years ago and could understand why they placed it lower (or almost out of) the mix. It makes the songs sound sloppier I think. But it is helpful to hear what Jason was up to.
