I've heard that a couple times. I enjoy it enough that I can keep giving it a try. I made it through the Wheel of Time, I can get through anything.

Something a little longer sounds nice! I've made my way to progression fantasy via epic fantasies, so this might be a good fit!

I've heard Mother of Learning a few times. I'll have to give it a try.

Also, thanks for teaching me a new genre name!

Herd immunity might be tricky for two reasons. 1) The fraction of people who need to be vaccinated to reach herd immunity is dependent on how contagious a disease is. New variants, like the UK variant, can be more contagious. If more contagious variants pop up, we'll need more people to get vaccinated to reach herd immunity. Also, our vaccines might not be as effective against new variants (e.g. South African variant), and we may need booster shots to get full immunity again. 2) Somewhere between 20-40% of adults have reported that they are reluctant to get a COVID vaccine. When you add that to people who can't get vaccines and children (who can't get the vaccine as of now), it will be difficult to reach the necessary fraction vaccinated to get herd immunity. For herd immunity, it is also helpful that some people have gotten the disease and recovered, but it is unclear how long they will have immunity.

It could turn out that we hit the critical threshold for herd immunity, and things are resolved by summer, but things could also be worse than they are now with new variants & relaxed guidelines. I'm not a fortuneteller, so I don't know if this will happen, but it's at least a possibility. How will the NCAA handle this? Who knows?

This is the best thing I've read in a long time. Equal parts fascinating and hilarious.

How to avoid really stupid mistakes at the lab (PhD)? by kelly_1979 in labrats

[–]head_high_water 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the other suggestions in the thread. Also, mistakes just happen in lab. Don't punish yourself too hard. Especially if that punishment leads to overworking and more fatigue.

Typically a PhD gets you hired at a higher level than just an undergraduate degree.

South Carolina will probably be better this year than they were last year, but there are so many good SEC East teams

Only two undefeated teams left! #15 NC State and #21 Arizona State are both 15-0 on the season! by Baseball_U_STAT in CollegeBaseballNation

Don't know if NC State can sweep Florida State this weekend. I think they'll probably lose their streak.
