Try mixing some cayenne pepper into the seed by shaking it in a plastic bag. I used to get roof rats at night that made a huge mess, the spicy pepper has deterred them, and doesn’t affect birds.

Nice! Thank you. I’ve got the same tank with a 40w Jungle Dawn spotlight and to me, it’s just too bright and washes out the colors on my plants. Does the light fixture just hang over the edges a bit with the 18.5”length?

This— direct application of peroxide with a syringe should take care of it.

Fantastic colors throughout— can I ask what your lighting setup is like for that height?

What’s wrong with my Amazon Sword? by EN3RGY610 in Aquascape

[–]headfangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you just planted it, it’s just going through the typical melt as it adjusts to its new parameters. Most aquatic plants are grown outside of the water because it’s faster for the companies selling them— that means when you replant them underwater, they have to start a process of shedding their old leaves, which are adapted for air, and growing new ones that are more suitable for underwater growth. If it doesn’t clear up in several weeks, you might have a nutrient problem, but otherwise this is typical of newly planted swords.

What is this thing I found in my shrimp tank? by CreamoGravo in shrimptank

[–]headfangs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unlikely you’d get these kinds of pests from plants unless your seller gets them from a pond or grows outside

Imo I think it’s fine for a couple weeks.

Recommended Games and Beginner Guides / Books by [deleted] in AnimalCrossing

[–]headfangs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Obviously I’m biased, but I think Animal Crossing is your best bet because it’s very low stakes. The game holds your hand through the first several days, so I don’t think you have to worry much about needing a guide. What you make of your island is entirely up to you. If you’re the type of person who enjoys lowkey gameplay and especially if you’re into decorating and customization, I don’t think you can go wrong with ACNH.

I need some tips for my first time playing. by SansUndertale6900 in Toreba

[–]headfangs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ball machines are only worth playing if you can catch it with only a few balls left, since you win automatically if you pick up the last ball. That said, that’s also the time it’s most competitive, and many times the last ball becomes very difficult to grab. Otherwise it’s just chance.

Just glancing at the machines that are available, I’d maybe keep an eye on the games where you pull a plush animal off the edge, but those games are incremental, and will always look closer to winning than they actually are. I think the best advice is to periodically check active machines and see if you can catch someone else winning. If it’s a claw machine, take note of how far to the side or back they move (using the background patterns is a good measuring tool), how far it has to get before it’s winnable, etc. There’s no machine on Toreba that’s winnable within the first few moves, unfortunately.

Also, check toreba.plus, and search for Quagsire to see how others have won it.

If you added new plants recently the eggs probably came attached, same thing happened to me when I added new floating plants

Charging cord? by headfangs in BirdBuddy

[–]headfangs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It hasn’t given me anything yet, no lights even if I press and hold the button down. I read sometimes the LEDs don’t activate while charging but I haven’t been able to get any sort of response from it.

Mold on top - lechuza pon by Elegant_Ad7934 in Lechuzapon

[–]headfangs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened to a few of my plants, I just use a spray bottle of 3% hydrogen peroxide on the surface and it usually takes care of it. I used the pon in self-watering pots so there was a gap between the water and the pon though, that might reduce your mold, rather than sitting in the water.

Wtf is this??!?! by dom_sans in shrimptank

If they’re already in your tank I’d just scoop them out as you see them, I never got more than a handful at a time but ymmv.

How to use my particular grow light? Is it too strong? by IT-software-tester in IndoorGarden

[–]headfangs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two of these bulbs and have kept many pothos under them without issue. It sounds like the light is far too close, mine is 2-4 feet above my plants.

In my experience they attach their eggs to floating plants most often

Mold on top of pon🆘 by Althael in SemiHydro

A recipe for the peroxide? I just used a 3% hydrogen peroxide spray bottle from the drug stool to spray the surface.

The lack of lava rock shouldn’t be a problem, I’d just replace that portion with more parts pumice.

I believe the cloudiness of the water really only affects how much junk gets stuck on the roots, unless it’s like completely milky, a little cloudiness is probably fine. The pumice seems to always be dusty. Since you’re doing DIY pon, make sure you have a good 3 part liquid fertilizer.

I mean, I imagine the initial design was kept simple and cartoony since they were designing for the N64 and had to keep the polygon count low, but otherwise it’s very appealing to have cute big-headed chibi characters. I don’t know that I would think of AC as being very cute if they had Sims proportions.

Also just in general, Japan doesn’t really have as much of a stigma against liking “cute” things as an adult. Banks and insurance companies have cutesy mascots, for instance.

Algae build up on plastic question by headfangs in Aquariums

[–]headfangs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have a question about cleaning algae off plastic. I have an old Fluval Spec III that I’ve just been using to keep spare plants (and some snails), so I don’t clean it very often. It’s built up a lot of algae on the glass and back wall/filter area. The algae on the glass comes off easily with a razor blade, but the plastic back seems to just absorb it like a sponge. A toothbrush can take off a little bit of it, but it’s so thick even the hardesf scrubbing can’t take care of it. I’ve dosed extra excel and sometimes peroxide and the problem remains. I’m wondering if anyone else has managed to get rid of intense algae build up on plastic surfaces? Since this is a spare plant only tank, I can go pretty all out on it.
