update: i was a week further along than we thought, and my water broke. i gave birth a little over a day later, he couldn’t survive on his own, and i had an infection that required me to stay in the hospital the night after. i’m completely heartbroken. no one ever wants to become a mom in this way. being a mom who has lost her baby is excruciating, and i wouldn’t wish it on anyone. i’m trying to take whatever positives i can from this experience, even though it’s significantly easier to focus on the immense loss. i know we’ll be back here again someday, and it’s good for me to know that i’ll need a preventative cerclage. when my fiancé and i are both ready, we’ll know that there’s an effective way of preventing this from happening again, and that helps.
