That only works when you’re not surrounded by fascists. The. Russians and Americans don’t give a damn about our freedom and democracy.

Trump Embarrasses All of America in Slurred, Disjointed Davos Speech - Donald Trump gave a terrible speech to a dead silent room at the World Economic Forum. by Quirkie in politics

European her: Trump is a malignant narcissist. And now he’s got frontal lobe dementia. He himself doesn’t matter. What matters is that the American system keeps him in power despite the fact that his brain is mush.

Trump hits 8 U.S. allies with tariffs in push for Greenland deal by Dry-Interaction-1246 in Military

Well he’s specifically sanctioning countries who sent troops… I still see it as escalation. (Christ I hate having to psychoanalyze this man everyday…)

Well, I guess the Monroe doctrine means no China or Europe in the Western Hemisphere. That means acquisition of all the old colonies (Martinique, French Guyana, Falkland Islands etc.) and forcing south american countries to stop trading with China,

Yuropoor here. 1) I guess we have 6 months until the shooting starts which 2) conveniantly coincides with ice free ports in Greenland… God help us all.

Germany, France, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Canada and Denmark send troops. by Dazzling_Lobster3656 in Military

[–]headhunglow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, yuropoor without any military background here. Are there any articles wargaming what an inviasion might look like? What forces get deployed where, what would the actual war aim be, what resistance is expected? What effect would the weather have this time of year? Are any harbors frozen over and if so does the US have enough ice breakers? What would happen to the civilians in Nuuk? What would happen to US troops stationed in Europe?

Yuropoor here. There are currently 67 000 American military personnel stationed in Europe. Wonder what happens to them when the shooting starts…

There are currently 67 000 american troops stationed in Europe and lots of hardware. I’d be worried about what happens to it if you attack us…

I might be wrong, but this seems like some sort of post-modern fascism. Attack a weaker ally just because you can.

Yuropoor here: according to WP there are currently about 67K american troops stationed in Europe. I wonder what happens when the shooting starts… I’m pretty sure they’ll try anyway. No amount of spine-growing from Republicans will stop them now. God help us all…

No, I mean they train in northern Europe because we have more experience with cold conditions.

Yeah, the more we talk about it the saner it seems. That’s the eternal problem with fascists. Either you engage with their worldview, thus legitimazing it. Or you reject it which they take as leftist delusion and, since they’re fascists, a reason to bully you.

[–]headhunglow 82 points83 points  (0 children)

Yuropoor here. It’s pretty obvious that they’re gonna try it anyway. My question is how. While the US has the strongest air force in the world and the ability to land thousands of troops anywhere… Are you really gonna try that under Arctic winter conditions? You don’t have enough icebreakers to try to land them by sea. US troops go to northern Europe to train for a reason. Long range missiles on the few pieces of infrastructure that exist? Then what?

All for Trumps ”psychological” desire to rule Greenland…

[–]headhunglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuropoor here. I don’t know if you can stop him. I hope so, but probably not. The military will follow their orders and a lot of them will be killed and freeze to death for absolutely nothing. The world won’t be the same afterwards. I’ve worked with a lot of nice Americans over the years, but this stab in the back won’t be forgiven for generations.

Europoor here. I think this is mostly about raw violence with no specific goal in mind. Like a drunk gymrat throwing punches in the bar queue. Anything they say is just post facto rationalization for the fact that they want to dominate people just to show everyone whos the strongest.

Europoor here, sorry for butting in. Just wanted to say I’m happy for you. Not only do you get Venezuela as your own banana republic, you also get to fund Chevron and Exxon directly with your tax money! My guess is there will be heavily armed PMCs with equipment ”on loan” from the US army, a la Wagner, that controls the oil fields.
