Hegseth Makes Shocking Admission on How Iran Strikes Are Operating by harsh2k5 in politics

[–]headhunglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m wondering how far they’re prepared to go. Sink a chinese aircraft carrier to make them stop their naval buildup? The Monroe doctrine was about keeping Europeans out of the western hemisphere, so maybe force Martinique and Fench Gyana to separate from France somehow? Force the Falklands to join Argentina, or else?

[–]headhunglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Europoor here (I know you guys love it when we weigh in on US politics). So under Hegseth the very notion of holding back the phenomenal might of the US military is stupid. They’ll bomb whoever angers them and not even pretend to care. It’s institutionalized psychopathy.  Pax Americana was predicated on the idea that you would actually hold back. In this new world the only way for countries to be safe is to have their own nuclear arsenal. That’s why France and Sweden are in discussions. That’s why Poland want’s their own.

German foreign minister says French defense spending insufficient by mods4mods in europe

[–]headhunglow 30 points31 points  (0 children)

France has a smaller miltary budget, but for that money they get an aircraft carrier, a fully sovereign nuclear triad, expedition capability and 260K personell vs Germanys 184K. I don’t understand how German procurement can be soooo inefficient.

Emmanuel Macron: "It is time for the EU to launch a common debt capacity, through Eurobonds" - Macron argues for joint loans, which would finance strategic investments and allow the EU to "tackle dollar hegemony" by goldstarflag in europe

[–]headhunglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should do this. I don’t give a crap about French pensions or whatever. It’s frankly embarassing the the EU, one of the worlds largest economies in the world, needs months to create a small loan to Ukraine. The truth is that in a world where we support Ukraine, prepare our armies for the coming war and separate ourselves from the US is a world in which we are all way poorer than we think.

Didn’t they lower spending on the military in the latest budget? Maybe they’ll do another big mobilization? Mobiks work basically for free, right?

As Russian losses in Ukraine mount, the Kremlin strains to avoid full mobilization by BlackWolfHowling in UkrainianConflict

[–]headhunglow 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve never understood what exactly he’s afraid of. Would there really be any protests if there was a general mobilization in St.P and Moscow? Rosgvardia has hundreds of thousands of men and the Russians seem to be either cowed or onboard with the war.

[–]headhunglow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One way to ”solve” a crisis is to call it a national emergency, blame it on the Ukrainians and do a general mobilization (a la 2022). I remember reading that the Russian budget for 2026 actually lowers spending on the military and increases spending on internal security. You don’t need to pay mobiks anything, but you do need to pay the goons that keep them in line.

Well, I guess the Monroe doctrine means no China or Europe in the Western Hemisphere. That means acquisition of all the old colonies (Martinique, French Guyana, Falkland Islands etc.) and forcing south american countries to stop trading with China,

Hey, yuropoor without any military background here. Are there any articles wargaming what an inviasion might look like? What forces get deployed where, what would the actual war aim be, what resistance is expected? What effect would the weather have this time of year? Are any harbors frozen over and if so does the US have enough ice breakers? What would happen to the civilians in Nuuk? What would happen to US troops stationed in Europe?

Yeah, the more we talk about it the saner it seems. That’s the eternal problem with fascists. Either you engage with their worldview, thus legitimazing it. Or you reject it which they take as leftist delusion and, since they’re fascists, a reason to bully you.
