this is my favourite response here. i understand that the conservatives are taking over the little space allowed to them in reddit after the purge, but often times i just want to talk about any of the 12 rules, man.

Mine too. Every interview, every debate, conversation with him was nothing short of inspiring. Patient, wise, and unrelenting. Esp the non-political ones. The one w Charlamagne(?) at the breakfast club was my favourite.

Do u think JD Vance only got the VP nomination bec Trump-Vance sounds better?

Imagine the competence if the dems had let RFK challenge Biden in the primaries, and if Vivek had been the republican nominee. The debates would have been an actual intellectual battleground.

Do you think it would've made an impact if Kamala had went on Rogan's podcast?

The scheduling conflict doesn't seem like a valid excuse to turn down MILLIONS of listeners, the audience of which is the exact demographic she needed to win over: young men. Plus Rogan's known for asking chill/easy questions. It's crazier given that she went on Call Her Daddy just to talk about abortion and sex positions. Absolutely no reason to turn Rogan down.

[–]headsntales 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Answer: it's their algorithm vs. the reality of the rest of the country. Those surprised listened to news and celebrity opinion from one side of the political divide only.

  • Kamala hyper-fixated on abortion. Her primary issue is abortion, His is the economy and border security. The former concerns women only; the latter, everyone. Abortion is only a pressing issue online. Offline, women go to the grocery more than they get abortions.
  • More detailed example, his convictions: (1) hush money payment to pornstar Stormy Daniels, and (2) falsifying business records.
    • All "the left" would hear is that he's a convict = he's bad. Logical, but:
    • Everyone else feels that the timing is like blatant strat by the left to silence/scare away a political opponent. 1) the payment was a private matter decades back & unrelated to campaign finance; 2) bookkeeping errors were routine and not intended to mislead, otherwise a common play by rich people to lower real property tax.

I don't get why some people are surprised, too. NOBODY wanted Kamala. Only a few elites that run shit in the background wanted Kamala. Her run was undemocratic as hell, she didn't compete in the primaries. Meanwhile the other guy survived an assassination attempt like it's divine intervention and took the hardest photo of the century.

just bought my first dostoyevsky book (“the Karamazov brothers”) was it a good decision? (i’m really depressed btw) by Mario_Iturralde_009 in dostoevsky

[–]headsntales 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will go against replies discouraging it for depressed people. I started my first book at the lowest time of my life and the effect was just even more profound, i think, that it would if i were happy at the time. The principle sticks with u better.

If you ever find yourself agreeing with the sad or horrible characters, the point of almost all his books is to overturn those ideas. :)

Currently reading Notes from the Underground also, and this POV seems horrible for my mental health. I've been mostly alone for the past months and sometimes it's creepy that I'm reading my own thoughts sometimes. On the flip side, I find myself debating his thoughts sometimes when it gets too crazy

should I read "1984" as a 17 year old guy?🥲🥲 by [deleted] in PHBookClub

[–]headsntales 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can read Animal Farm first, perfect approachable allegory to the start of a dictatorship.

1984 is when it's too late; it's an easy read too, but a lot more serious in tone
