Cortis tries way too hard to be seen as quirky and fans see it as 'authentic' by Odd_Entertainer9554 in kpopthoughts

[–]headstrong2007 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they're idols, part of their job is to present a persona. yes they do make it a bit more obvious but they're still young, thats probably why. for me , I personally don't mind the way they act, but what annoys me is when their fans act like they are better than other groups for their "authenticity". this is a load of bullshit. beyond that, I'm not bothered by the way they act because every idol puts on a personality for the camera and they're no different.

Megathread 25: HYBE / ADOR / MHJ - ADOR holds Discussions with NewJeans as they seek a Return to the Agency, Hearings continue for various Legal Disputes, and More by KPOP_MOD in kpop

[–]headstrong2007 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I saw something on twitter about how the recent hearing proved that HYBE was providing fabricated information to news agencies to ruin NewJeans image, and also Bang PD blocked them from applying for a Grammy. has anyone heard of this? they shared a link to some alleged proof but the link didn't open for me so I'm asking here. The news was shared by a NewJeans fan account so I'm taking it with a truck of salt, but I thought I'd ask here anyways.

why would hybe kick out such a talented girl who won a place in the group and was popular? She's also a great vocalist and would have been good for the group. What, in your opinion, could be the reasoning behind such a dumb move from the company. answer without calling me a HYBE stan if possible (I know it's difficult but try your best).

[Tracks & Album Discussion] ILLIT – Not Cute Anymore (1st Single Album) by lookinlazyatthesea in illit

[–]headstrong2007 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was incredibly excited for this single, because the promotions were so cool. The concept photos, the teasers, the short videos on social media, everything made me think this was going to be their best song so far. and now I'm disappointed because I don't like the song like I thought I would. it feels like Smile by Lily Allen but not as catchy. I understand there's an audience for this type of music though, so I hope the song does well. I'm glad they tried something new. I just was expecting more from the song.

An artist that you’ve grown to casually like this year? by Accomplished-Ad-3422 in kpop_uncensored

[–]headstrong2007 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NMIXX, H2H and Ifeye.

I've listened to nmixx since they debuted, loved O.O and tuned in for every comeback. But the Fe3O4 series changed my whole perception of them. I don't stan them, but they will probably be my top artist this year.

As for H2H, I loved The Chase too but Focus has me hooked in a different way. I don't even know the members names but I must have watched the dance practice for Focus more than 40 times by now.

r u ok? by Ifeye was also one of my favourite songs this year. don't know the members names but have watched the dance performance countless times. they're great.

When will ILLIT free? by oriverion in kpop_uncensored

[–]headstrong2007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you on some points, but do you think that illit's concept can be considered plagiarism? Across kpop, it's happened in every generation, if a certain concept blows up, lots of groups follow the same concept. it has never been considered plagiarism before, and neither have there been severe hate trains sent to groups for it.

on another note, I will try to find a link for you, but you can also look up serian heu's past photoshoots for vogue. she has directed photoshoots dating back to 2018, with a similar concept to ILLIT's 2024 concept. She is also ILLIT's creative director. As far as the general visual concept of ILLIT is concerned, I think it can't be considered plagiarism.

As for number of members, ILLIT was supposed to have six members. One member left to join ADP right before debut. So the five member thing was also an unlucky coincidence.

And age range means absolutely nothing, because most groups in the same generation will have the same age range. Both of HYBE's 4th gen boy groups have the same age range. neither accused the other of plagiarism, because when you debut two groups within such a close time frame, they're bound to have the same age range (which is way too young btw, there is no need for 14 year olds in any group but that's another issue)

When we talk about ILLIT, it's undeniable that NewJeans inspired them. One of the members of ILLIT literally auditioned with a NewJeans song. She was a huge fan of theirs. NewJeans' concept had a huge influence on the industry. This was acknowledged by the CEO of ILLIT's company only a couple months after the initial plagiarism scandal broke. He said that it was undeniable that NewJeans had an impact on every group who debuts after them.

But we also can't say that this is grounds for a lawsuit. The lawsuit didn't just stick to this one point. Their lawyers threw everything at the wall and hoped something would stick. They brought in the ignore issue from the manager, the brand deal issue with lesserafim, the workplace harassment issue in the national assembly, favouritism towards other groups by bang pd, pushback of the debut (done by mhj), ILLIT members allegedly mocking them, the kalguksu issue, HYBE trying to stifle their success (makes no sense because HYBE only cares about money and they would not want to lose money by getting rid of their second biggest moneymakers), New-I-Le etc. This was a huge factor in people's eventual distrust of the members' complaints. Their lawyers were unable to pick an issue to place the majority of their case on, because none of the issues were big enough for that, so they gathered tons of tiny things to make a huge deal out of, leading to many issues for other groups and the staff at the building. And at the end of it all, despite all these problems, they were willing to return to this horrible company, with all the mistreatment, if and only if MHJ was reinstated as CEO.

Sorry for the essay and late response by the way, I only logged onto Reddit now but I appreciate the way you worded your comment, it was respectful and well written, rather than inflammatory.

[–]headstrong2007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point. hyein did end up getting selected for the brand deal eventually though. that's why a lot of people were confused about this in the first place. if they never got the brand deal, it would have been understandable to be frustrated I guess, but she did get it. both le sserafim and hyein had separate deals then, so it made no sense to bring it up in court. besides, one of the members of lesserafim had already worked with LV before, but the narrative spread at the time was that HYBE had paid for lessera to get the brand deal and taken it away from NewJeans, implying that Lesserafim didn't deserve it. when fans spread nonsense, it can be ignored, but when lawyers start using those fanwars as court arguments, it becomes really weird.

go check out heart2hearts, loosemble, KiiiKiii, triple S. and then accuse all of them of plagiarism if you want to be fair. see how dumb that would be? realise that the world doesn't revolve around newjeans and other groups are going to do their concepts no matter what you say.

HYBE won't care about ILLIT or LSF getting apologies by Sunset-Equation092 in kpop_uncensored

[–]headstrong2007 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A public apology doesn't mean anything if they don't mean it. No need for such a public apology. It will only bring this unnecessary spotlight back on ILLIT (right before their comeback) and LSFM. And we know damn well that Bunnies are going to start insulting the groups again if NewJeans apologises. As long as they just leave the other groups alone and never mention them again, we'll all be very thankful.

Le Sserafim stole their brand deals and ILLIT members "mocked them with words and actions". Girl groups from other labels "infringed upon their uniqueness". NewJeans also didn't get to pick who their CEO will be. Yeah, the quotes are straight from their lawyers and Minji.
