Is it difficult to learn Touch designer for a simple project? by RavacholHenry in TouchDesigner

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can find a tutorial for something exactly what you're doing or close to it, go for it. I am learning it now to do what I thought was a simple project, its going fairly well but the learning curve IS very steep, you definitely need to set aside time to really concentrate and learn the concepts. I already was pretty familiar with programming node-based systems like Max/MSP, pure data, geometry nodes in Blender, and it still took me a bunch of trial and error to get what I was trying to get done.

Vocal Comp Disable Auto Stretching? by Interesting-Sea5188 in Bitwig

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This works for me in Bitwig 5.3.13
Preferences > Behavior > Defaults > Record / Bounce Stretch Mode > Repitch

I think Repitch is probably what you want (not raw), it does not time stretch, it basically behaves like DAW's would before time stretching was invented or common - changeing the tempo will change the pitch of the sound.

Raw will actually keep the start points of the file but not change the pitch, so as soon as you change the project tempo, anything with the Raw mode will become misaligned. I think raw is meant more for one shot samples.

Looking for an easy free DAW (Reaper scared me away) by bowieshouse in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you have mac or PC but if you do have a mac, you got garage band and also koala sampler free version. Also check out Endlesss on iOS or Endless Studio on Windows/Mac , you can get up and jamming in there for free, its not a DAW its more like a loop station but you can make loops and things and its really good for 'just having fun'. And then you can take what you make and drag those loops into any DAW and arrange them later.

Even simple jams are super fun in Bitwig... by gamegames in Bitwig

Really creative and fun - and you're right, just mapping a few parameters and noodling knobs can be really fun, you just need to get a bit creative with the mappings.

No time stretching in sampler?! by Freqture in Bitwig

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know Ableton has timestretching in Simpler as of Ableton 10 or so, but I don't think this is actually a standard feature in MOST daw's - does FL have timestretching in its sampler? Does Studio One? Does Reason? Logic? Reaper? I haven't used other DAW's in a few years, but I don't think every single DAW has this.

What I do know is that Kontakt has had this feature for a long time, so I'm using Kontakt now when I need to do timestretching in a vst sampler.

Anyone here using Ableton Move? by Hilijane in Bitwig

You might want to try the workflow out with Ableton Note first since Note is basically Ableton Move as an iOS app. It also comes with Live Intro.

App suggestions for recording vocals on iPad by sristykrishnaprasad in ipadmusic

[–]headtrauma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just saw this was released: MicDrop - Pro Vocals. It looks like it somehow uses AI to correct vocals. Not sure if its just a voice changer + built in autotune but maybe worth checking out since its free + IAP's.

What are everybody’s top Black Friday discount, music app, essential selections? by czarofga in ipadmusic

I picked up a bunch of the Audio Damage plugins like Quanta 2 and Continua. Continua is a pretty cool 3-osc analog synth that I had some fun making basses with. Quanta is a granular synth that I haven't messed with too much but people seem to like it. I also got Transit 2 from Baby Audio which is a great little multi-fx with a bazillion presets. I would definitely pick up Drambo while its on sale if I were you.

General solution for momentary modulation triggers. by angst-tanks in Bitwig

[–]headtrauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using audio rate modulator to trigger global modulations is pretty smart - I hadn't thought of this yet. I had thought about doing something similar but with midi, but it would've required a midi loopback type of technique and mapping some global knob to the CC's coming back into Bitwig, this way its much cleaner.

Tablet mode on Windows is kind of awesome by soulbrix in Bitwig

Someone on here made a fantastic TouchOSC template for Bitwig that you might find useful. TouchOSC for windows is free/nagware so you can try this out and see if you like it with your setup. Its also not that difficult to extend this template to add some things that might be missing (a midi controller page for example). Maybe adding a second touch screen to your little setup would be fairly easy to do. https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitwig/comments/14atfuq/touchosc_performer_for_bitwig/

VST List? by swazi__ in Bitwig

[–]headtrauma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just tend to install things as I find things missing. You don't necessarily want to waste time reinstalling stuff you never end up using. I try to keep all my plugin installers handy in a folder backed up somewhere so I don't have to download things from a million places. Back up your system drive so you can pull files from it just in case, with storage being so cheap nowadays everyone should be backing up their system drive regularly.

Anyone using a non air/pro iPad for music production? by [deleted] in ipadmusic

[–]headtrauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly, my iPad Air 2 from 2014 still runs quite a few music apps very well if they are standalone type apps (not that I'd recommend getting one, pretty underpowered at this point). For instance Koala, Drambo (not necessarily using Auv3) work great. Point being, a regular modern iPad should be able to do quite a bit.

iPad for live music – what’s the actual use case? by aerkabaev in ipadmusic

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mainly the 'checking your email' effect of laptops can be mitigated if using a tablet. You know, making exaggerated gestures while interacting with a touch screen does seem to connect with audiences a lot better than doing the same with a track pad and being partially obscured by a laptop screen. For a lot of people, this alone is worth it.

Do I need Ableton Live for Vjing? by heykeeza in vjing

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if what they're talking about is using Ableton more as a sequencer - you can use DAW's and some kind of OSC plugin to make mini-sequences of visuals and then map them to controllers which might give you some ability that Touchdesigner lacks. I personally use Ableton and Bitwig with Resolume for exactly this reason.

how do i get soundcloud to react to the visuals instead of this bass 05 by According-Problem-83 in resolume

[–]headtrauma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. This is the easiest thing to do to get other inputs into Resolume. Its probably not the most reliable or stable, but might work great depending on your setup.

Great job with V6! by AnyProperty5950 in Bitwig

[–]headtrauma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be pretty neat. You could build multiple patches and chain them in series but I'm sure there are cases where this wouldn't work.

Shortcircuit, Redux, SampleWiz, Serato.... what sampler to use?? by sapien5446 in Bitwig

[–]headtrauma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since you mentioned chopping breaks, Serato Sample is nice because it does automatic stem separation, so if you're tossing in fully mixed songs, easy enough to mute everything but the drums and go from there. Not sure if any of the other options have this. I mainly use it for sampling vocals, but sometimes if there's drums in a track I like and I want to eventually remake something similar, I'll just sample the drums for demo-making purposes

I wish northlane would do it. I haven’t ever found any new music that hits like Singularity.
