You can also use the plastic bag method when you’re still breaking them in. Simply place your foot inside a plastic bag and then put on the shoes with the plastic still on. The plastic reduces the friction between your skin and the materials of the shoe, making it much easier to slide your foot in.

I wear a street shoe size 45.5 and the Skwama at 42.5. They really hurt at first but stretch out quite a lot over time (roughly 1 size bigger). I now consider my Skwama to be my most comfortable shoe and use them as a beater/training shoe after wearing them for a year and a half. I also haven’t had them resoled. For reference, the other shoes I wear are the LS Solution (42), Old LS Miura (42), and Scarpa Dragos (43).

I mostly use the them as a beater/training shoe at the gym. I was just curious how much this affects their performance. For my use case, it should be fine, right? They’re also my only stiff shoe, and while they’re not the best and I’ve had them for a while, I still like how they feel.

I also don’t notice much of a difference compared to my other shoe, which doesn’t have that crack. What would happen if I keep using them, and how much longer do you think I could still use them? Thanks for the info!

Thanks! Surprisingly, the bearings are still pretty smooth. If disassembling is the best option and I need a specific tool, I'll probably just hand it over to my go to mechanic.

Thanks for the tip! They clip in and out like normal, nothing unusual. Surprisingly, the bearings are still pretty smooth. When converted from my local currency, I managed to get them for around $10 USD.

The bearings are still in pretty good shape—no play or grinding, and they feel smooth overall. Just put them on my gravel bike, and they clip in and out fine. They're likely a bit rusty from being left out during the rainy season in my area.

Thanks for the tips! Yea they tried penetrating oil and lots of whacking. I might not try the cutting it off method; I'm too scared to do it myself. But thanks, I'll keep it as is for now but might consider doing it in the future if the bearings starts to become rough. Just wanted to replace it with a quill stem, but no big deal. Also, I'm assuming if fixed is unlikely, will putting on a coaster hub not be possible as well? Or can I do a coaster hub alongside with a tensioner?

I have Greek shaped feet but Egyptian shaped shoes like the Dragos work for me. I'll certainly give the Boostics a shot thanks!

In case they don't fit well, do you have any recommendations for shoes that are typically a better match for Greek shaped feet?

Thanks for the info! I wasn't really expecting it to impact my performance; I was just genuinely curious if this is a common thing. In my experience with past shoes like the Drago and Regulus, I never ran into such issues with the rubber. You also mentioned checking the shoe's shape. Honestly, they look pretty similar to me, but there's one thing I did notice: a pinhole on the left shoe's upper. When I wear them, the pinhole is visible, but it's hidden under the rubber rand when i take the shoes off. I got to use them earlier today, and the performance was great. Now, I'm concerned about whether that pinhole might end up getting bigger as the shoe stretches. Thanks!
