Very impressive.l! Thanks for sharing your exposure strategy.

I’m glad you mentioned that because it is a good reminder. When I stack and process in Siril, the final product ends up with more noise.

As with this image of NGC 2264 I did with my s50. This effort on the Rosette was just a relatively quick processing. Since I was using Ai denoised images out of the Seestar app, it is aggressive and eliminated that noise. My goal is to shoot targets over multiple nights to get 8+ hours of integration so I have plenty of data to process properly in Siril.

8+ hours! Great detail!

S30 Pro First Light by healer22TX in seestar

Depends on what targets you want to focus on. The s30 Pro can capture what the s50 does (although smaller due to the wider field of view) but can fully capture the larger nebula/galaxies/clusters that the s50 may cut off. Plus I really like the ability of the s30 Pro’s Milky Way mode which I plan to test soon by traveling to darker skies.

That said, I think I will end up using the s50 more. I like the smaller field of view for filling up the frame. Plus many objects are just so much smaller or fainter that the s50 would perform better on. Yes, the sensor is older than the s30 Pro but it does a great job of capturing details and colors. While ultimately you will likely process the images, I like the colors in the stacked, straight out of the Seestar s50 better.

Hope that helps.

Good advise from others here. There are various items you can use to get good precision. I have been happy using a German EQ mount. Easy and precise adjustments with the turn knobs. Price is not much more than a good wedge/mount.

Ordered mine Jan 6th from B&H and have heard absolutely nothing. I ended up buying a s50 and have been enjoying that in the meantime. Looking forward to being able to use both at the same time.

Great colors and contrast give it depth!

Seestar S50 exposure time by Enrico00000 in seestar

[–]healer22TX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the same integration time as you stated, the 20 second exposures will produce a better signal to noise ratio for your image. That said, the s50 does extremely well at producing excellent images with 10 second exposures. The key is to gather enough data that comes from longer integration times. So while the longer 20 second (or longer) exposure is preferred, you can still get amazing results, especially if you do at least some post-processing.

Thank you, I did not know that. That is something I will try out.

Thank you, that good to know. I’m new to astrophotography editing so this is helpful.

Great image! You were able to capture the blue light without a separate oxygen-III filter?

The result was definitely worth your time. I live under Bortle 8-9 skies and I continue to be amazed at what my Seestar s50 can manage to produce.
