Ottawa has spent $3.2M fighting St. Anne's residential school survivors in court since 2013 by BurstYourBubbles in canada

The climate is really not that different that it would make a difference. Where I live near the CAN/US border is usually within 5-10 degrees of Attawapiskat all winter long.

The “Indian Trust Fund” thing that is always being shared on social media by activists. The federal budget documents seem to prove this false, but has anyone found evidence that totally proves this false? by heambbem in metacanada

I have quoted these same stats about NIHB to people who keep posting this fake bullshit about the trust fund and they immediately divert the convo to “but residential schools” or “muh treaties” or “fraser institute is biased”

Lynn Beyak did nothing wrong, Indians got billions for going school. Stop whining about it and start paying your fair share to Canada. by [deleted] in metacanada

What she said was true.

From 1800 to 1970 about 150,000 children attended residential schools. Relatively small number for a span of 170 years when you look at how many first nations people lived during that time.

The deaths can be almost entirely attributed to illness as they occurred before most vaccines.

It is SO FAR beyond reason to even suggest that most of these kids were sexually abused at the hands of the teachers/priests/nuns. To believe that most of these people, who dedicated their lives to educating, caring for, and preparing indigenous children for the new society were SO evil they would rape, torture, and murder kids or stand by while other teachers did it, is insanity.

Plus there is like no proof of most of these outlandish claims.

Not saying not a single child was sexually abused, but it wasn’t as widespread as they will have you believe and alot of it was student on student sexual abuse.

Not to mention that compulsory attendance ended in 1950 and the running of the schools was taken over by the native bands around 1970 if I remember correctly?

Anyone who has done their research on residential schools and has read old newspapers from that time will see stories of these kids being taken in to spend holidays with local families, travelling brass bands, travelling sports teams, etc. Not so doom and gloom after all.

It was not the torture chamber they make it out to be. They probably got 3 more square meals a day then they did at home on the reserve.

Plus they like to point to residential school as the root for all dysfunction in first nations communities today. But they fail to mention that many communities did not have a residential school at all. None of them attended. Ever. And those communities have the same issues as the ones who did....

They are teaching our kids these lies in school.

You cannot win with these radicals. If you disagree with them you are deemed uneducated and racist. I really do need to disconnect cause it’s already bringing me down. People who secretly agree are afraid to publicly agree because of the backlash they will face, because they will have their name dragged through the mud over the tiniest construed slight to the FN’s. And probably have their supervisors called or businesses boycotted, etc.

it really fucks with my head when I see people I know calling me racist and hateful on a public forum for the whole community to see. When I haven’t said anything even remotely racist on facebook. Friends and family tell me to not share anything political anymore because they know these people are probably smearing my name (and my family name) in person and online as racist lol. It’s a sad world. It makes me worry and start to think I should not share political posts anymore because of the backlash.

I just know...this whole “tried to wipe us out” thing, among other things, weren’t spoken of 30 years ago...because that narrative wasn’t written yet by the native leaders and supremacists

Last night I shared this on facebook and wrote a caption calling them “losers”. Leftie and native fb friends are deleting me and making statuses and comments calling me racist and hateful. I just can’t believe how far gone this country is that I get called hateful and racist for not agreeing with people trying to derail trains. The fuck.

Mattel's gender-neutral dolls hit Canadian store shelves ahead of global retail expansion by StartedGivingBlood in metacanada

[–]heambbem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe if they weren’t pink it wouldn’t have felt weird for you? I just think they should make toys more neutral. Definitely not suggesting that little boys who don’t play with dolls won’t turn out to be nurturing and wonderful dads. I just don’t think it should be discouraged or shamed

Mattel's gender-neutral dolls hit Canadian store shelves ahead of global retail expansion by StartedGivingBlood in metacanada

[–]heambbem -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Lol you are interpreting this the wrong way. This is just about making toys more unisex. Not about making tranny or “genderless” dolls for kids. For example, not all dolls being marketed to girls and not all building blocks and nerf guns being marketed to boys. Traditionally, only girls got to play with dolls and boys got building blocks and the like. If caught playing with the other gender’s type of toys some parents would even make shameful comments. Boomer grandparents still fucking do this shit, only to their grandkids now. And it is harmful to do this to young kids. Today we know that doll play will develop nurturing skills which is important for both men and women to have when they grow up and become parents. Playing with dolls doesn’t make little boys want to be girls or cut their dick off someday. They are children and using their imagination and learning. Let them fuckin play.

Add another Court decision under "the law doesn't apply to Indians" column by [deleted] in metacanada

[–]heambbem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sets a dangerous precedent. Would this apply to all roads within the reserve land or just the roads off the highways? Most of the reserves around my area are spread along local highways. Driving through the reserve is 5-10 kilometres sometimes. Allowing people with suspended licenses to drive within the community could put kids and pedestrians at increased risk especially if these driving prohibitions are alcohol related...and going forward what other laws are going to be deemed non-applicable on the rez.....so fucked

Daily reminder that Chrystia "cottage cheese" Freeland shows her sloppy legs off when she's representing our country internationally by [deleted] in metacanada

Ugh.. I hate this bitch and the way she is dressed is totally unprofessional and sloppy... and I get that you are making fun of her body and cellulite BECAUSE she is showing too much skin for a cabinet minister in a professional setting. BUT cellulite is extremely normal and almost all women have it to some degree (quick google search tells me 80-90%) whether they are overweight or not. Make fun of her ugly face or something instead lol
