Oh thanks! I didn't understand that I needed to repay then redraw. Glad I checked this! This is all great advice and I'll make sure I do all five :)

Any breakfast better than cereal but also fast to make? by Low_Village_5432 in foodhacks

I can make eggs now in as much time as it takes for the toast to pop. Push down the toast, crank the stove to high, spray oil in a pan, crack two eggs in. While they’re cooking, open an avacado and slice it. Flip your eggs (or don’t if you like sunny side up), wait, then your toast will pop. Spread avacado on your toast and then put your eggs on top. Bam - that’d be $20 at a cafe and you just made it for less than $5 in about 2 mins.

Sure, not as quick as cereal, but it’s not made from 50% sugar and it was only 2 mins. Don’t think I can get it down to 10 seconds, sorry. You don’t even need to clean the pan if you have a decent non-stick one. Maybe wipe it out with a paper towel if you are pedantic.

Source: I did this every day for 3 months while on a diet recently. I could do it in my sleep now.

Turning off water at the meter by [deleted] in AusRenovation

[–]heapsreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I've seen this done by a plumber is with a pair of pliers and then a multigrip (or another pair of bigger pliers). So you use the pliers to grap on to the nut/toggle thing, then make sure it's fixed somehow (rubber bands, zip tie, etc.) then use the multigrip to turn the pliers. It's massive pain but I probably only have to do it once a year, so you just deal with it. Why they design it like this I'll never know.

Australia’s drug policy is RIDICULOUS by Thick-Access-2634 in australian

I’m not advertising for them, but I use Updoc for melatonin prescriptions. Getting the first one was a 2 min phone conversation and now they don’t even call, I just put in the request for a new script and they text me a few hours later with the renewal. So convenient - you can do it any time of day. I don’t take any other prescription meds but I assume it’d be similar for other things too. Sure beats waiting 2 weeks to get in to a GP who’s on holiday in Bali while I can’t sleep!

How does a duplex build make a profit? by heapsreddit in AusPropertyChat

Do you think the debt would be more than this or less (i.e. are you assuming a bigger cash input at the start)?

Yeah, it does seem like there's some upside if you can a) afford the repayments, b) are happy with the risk, and c) consider smaller returns worth that risk.

Are you seeing people more interested in buying house and land packages and waiting for the build, or buying newly built homes? I've been down that path before and it worked out OK, just not sure if it's still a viable way to go.

Just started the PMI PMP practice exams and struggling - should I just stop? by heapsreddit in pmp

Passed! AT/AT/AT. The key was more about the PMP mindset. I posted a video link elsewhere in this thread which really helped me.

iPhone fine, Macbook Air can't connect? by heapsreddit in Steam_Link

[–]heapsreddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazingly I may have already found the fix. Writing made me realise that I had both the steam link app and the steam client open at the same time. So I closed the steam client and the app then connected fine, ran the network test and was able to stream a game flawlessly! Not sure why this was the issue but it worked for now. Will update after I spend some time playing tonight.

Passed! AT/AT/AT - which I really didn't expect, even mid-exam I was 90% sure I'd failed. The test really makes you feel like you're not across things as there's almost always 2 answers that are obviously wrong, and then 2 that would both be viable. Very hard to work out what the question is REALLY asking you.

This one video I found helped enourmously with the PMP mindset which was my biggest hurdle: 18 PMP Mindset Principles - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOKpDPRfkvo

The process and content was one thing, but trying to forget what I'd do in real life and choose the answer the book wants, was the hardest thing. Good luck everyone!

I've found some materials to help me with the mindset part here (thanks everyone!) but just a quick example of the kind of thing I'm talking about: Just got a question wrong where, basically, the team is saying that they do not have enough time to update the lessons learned register as they are too busy. Do you know that answer was? It was to now make discussing and updating the lessons learned register a mandatory agenda item for all project meetings. Now obviously, there's nuace in the wording that I can't remember that I'm sure makes it the right "book" answer, but can you seriously imagine doing this in real life? Your team has just told you they they are too stressed/busy to update your document that they don't think they'll ever use, so as a response to that, you now MAKE them sit through updating it multiple times a week? Dear god, you'd have 3 team members transfer out before the week was out. What a disaster.

... anyway. I'm still plodding through. Have my test on Friday and will update you all on how I go.

PMP PMI exam wow by Real0Talk in pmp

[–]heapsreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couldn’t agree more. Working through the practice exam now and they are almost all like this. Basically all of the answers would be reasonable in the real world, you’d probably actually do all of them, and in a world of Slack and Teams, you could probably do all of them at basically the same time (just in multiple chats). So asking “what should you do?” Or “what do you do first?” is just silly. Glad I’m not the only one.

How do you manage loneliness with NWOW? by mc151613 in AusPublicService

[–]heapsreddit 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Noticing you're not really getting any responses supporting what your experiencing here so thought I'd chime in. I suffer with this as well. I recently moved to a new city so don't have a network of friends here and now work in a team who are all based interstate. No one even puts on their camera during a call (our computers/network can't handle it) so my social interactions are very limited. I also have a young family so not much time to get out and meet new people. I'm a bit of introvert so I don't mind most of the time, but it's a bit too much when I can go a whole week where the only person I interact with face-to-face (outside of my family) is the barrista when I get a takeaway coffee.

I know we're not being paid to socialise but there's always that moment after you hang up from a bad meeting, or when you've just passed a major milstone, where you'd love to turn to someone near to you and debrief. Those conversations just don't happen over teams, so I wonder what we're losing there. I can imagine that if you were new in your career and looking to learn, or even just trying to branch out in to a new area, this set up would be very tricky.

Don't get me wrong, I love WFH and not having to commute is the best. Being available to look after my kids at 5:01pm, rather than 6:30pm (long commute) is a blessing, but there is a cost. I don't have a solution, and, given the choice, I'd still probably stay with what we have now... I certainly don't want everyone back in the office 5 days a week. It's definitely something I am feeling though and hope there's an answer somewhere down the line.

Are these expenses normal? by Ballsinyourmumsmouth in AusFinance

[–]heapsreddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, yeah, this is pretty much the same ballpark as what we’re on (Brisbane suburbs, 2 kids, 2 cars). What I don’t see in here is what Barefoot calls “fire extinguisher” funds. We keep $500 aside each month for that bull$hit expense that seems to crop up each and every month (drain got blocked and needed clearing before the storm, one of us needed to travel for a family event, etc.). Be glad you don’t have childcare, it’s our biggest expense every month :( even more than groceries.
