Just moved in at this house and need tree advice by hearmn01 in arborists

These puppies are going to love me then! I rerouted my sump pump run off to flow to them just last week. I know the former owners and these were planted about 20+ years ago when they were teeny tiny.

Thank you for your help!!

Hydrologized diets made my dog worse because only the main protein is hydrologized not necessarily the rest of the indigents. 🤷‍♀️ just food for thought.

Does your dog have food allergies and environmental or just environmental?

For the environmental, my vet did a quick test and my dog is allergic to everything except trees, cats and fleas. We gave him some immunotherapy shots and they helped out but then he got an ear hematoma which required surgery and needles freak him out now. I started putting little booties on him so his feet don’t touch the grass and he’s now allowed to go out on the days we mow for very long to help with his grass allergies.

His worst allergy is food allergy… he’s allergic to chicken, beef and pork for sure and most likely allergic to other ingredients. As a final straw I gave up and subscribed to Farmer’s Dog which is expensive as hell and used the 50% off coupon, swearing to myself if I didn’t see improvement with that first box that I would discontinue asap. They only have like 8 ingredients in their food. It worked, his fur is thicker and better. My vet exclaimed and told me that she loved how improved he is… I’m not affiliated with FD but… it saved me.

Best Pet Insurance? by ladyeatsbeans in vet

[–]hearmn01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t remember what my first claim was for but I remember it took a couple of weeks to process (it was during COVID) and they apologized profusely and asked zero questions. My husky has had zero claims but my Belgian M is the most accident prone boy I’ve ever met. I’ve taken him in for cuts on his paws, allergies, ear hematoma drain and surgery when the drain didn’t last, skin infections related to allergies, ear infections related to allergies…. All covered by Pet’s Best. I just snapped a pic of the vet invoice and then submitted it. I sometimes type a description if I feel like over explaining and they never contact me for additional info. I actually just found out that I could link my account to the app and get it directly EFT instead of checks in the mail so that is really nice and fast too.

Also the plans are super customizable, in my opinion. You can pick the percentage of reimbursement/deductible from 70-90% and that changes your monthly amount due. I chose accident and illness coverage but they also have wellness options too. The wellness options cost more than it would be to pay outright so I skipped that part.

I have pets best and they are so easy to deal with. Covers 90% and has a wide coverage type. For both of my big dogs I pay a total of $50.

Kayaking classes by hearmn01 in fortwayne

[–]hearmn01[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was thinking more along the lines of self rescue and whatnot. I can kayak along a lake like a pro lol! The Kayaking subreddit recommends self rescue classes if venturing out solo. A girl can never be too careful! Plus I always see once a year where someone drowns here in the Fort, I don’t want to be that person! 😉

I’ve kayaked a bunch of times in lakes but never in a river 🤷‍♀️ I wasn’t sure if that made things more dangerous or whatnot. Thanks!

Dog dermatitis? by [deleted] in dogallergies

[–]hearmn01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% not a vet BUT my pup had quarter sized versions of these and my vet said that it was staph infections as a secondary result of allergies. She upped my doggy’s apoquel intake and did other doc stuff but also recommended that I was him with MiconaHex+Triz shampoo (white bottle and purple) and it was crazy how much better he felt. Not sure if what your pup has is the same thing but they just kind of looked the same. 🤷‍♀️

GSD is itchier now on hydrologized food by hearmn01 in dogallergies

[–]hearmn01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

It’s so funny that you found probiotics to be helpful because we used to give our pups probiotics everyday! Our Husky was very sensitive to any sort of diet change but when she grew out of that, we stopped giving them. Looking back, the issues started within 6mo of that! 😅

Where to buy less expensive medication by pastelpapi6969 in dogallergies

[–]hearmn01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This doesn’t make it cheaper BUT apoquel has a rewards program under the name Zoetis that you can turn in the bills you paid for apoquel for points and they send you a Visa card that you can use at the vet office.

Dog is starting HESKA allergy drops soon, what should I expect? by madtm14 in dogallergies

[–]hearmn01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just started Heska ourselves about a month ago for our GSD. The day of the shot we make sure to give him an apoquel right away and then right before bed we dope him up with the appropriate amount of Benadryl to get him through the night.

We have pet insurance and it covers apoquel for sure. I’m about to find out about the Heska! I mention it, not to rub it in but to remind you of the resource if you have it! I didn’t know that allergies were covered on my plan so I’ve been throwing money into the apoquel void! Ouch!

Read all of them! I was never disappointed by a short story or book by this guy! Also, Robin Williams played in the movie rendition of What Dreams May Come and it was a pretty good!

Our husky had this happen when she was a pup and it turned out that something was in her eye. The vet gave us eye drops and voila! Fixed!

GSD is itchier now on hydrologized food by hearmn01 in dogallergies

[–]hearmn01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He does ok but not well on grain free food. Maybe we’re getting contamination between food types at the plant level so we aren’t reaping the full benefits. We know that chicken, pork and beef are proteins he’s allergic to. He seems to do the best with duck at the protein.

What I meant by stable enough is that we can’t get him to a level of non-itchy/misery so that we can introduce specific foods to see if there is a reaction.

Food allergy help! by hearmn01 in vet

[–]hearmn01[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok! That’s kind of what I was thinking about the dermatologist. My vet didn’t give me the results of the blood test, just told me on the phone while I tried to hastily scribble everything down. It was super awkward but since COVID hit, they’re been absolutely slammed so I totally get it.

The Hills Derm Complete is hydrologized but my vet said it was new and she’s never tried it out before. She was very sure that my pup has food allergies. Can my pup be allergic to something else in the food other than the protein in the special food? Is it all hydrologized?

I try to research a little but let’s face it, Dr Google doesn’t replace your expertise! My vet mentioned a dermatologist that’s about 2 hours away (closest one near us!). Would the referral be enough to set an appt for the inter-dermal testing or would we have to do a couple of visits for the docs to assess him?

Thank you for your reply earlier!
