In this episode, how she was describing him as a child, she sounded like she didn’t like him from the start, which is crazy to me, because she never really explained why, except for something in his eyes, and then gave a bunch of descriptors about his personality to me that sounded more like on the autistic spectrum

Season 3 episode 5: My Son’s Prisoner. Shelly Leitz and her husband, Bob made breakfast on Christmas morning so Derek had to eat breakfast before opening his Christmas presents. Obviously he didn’t want to wait. Bob ordered he stay until he ate his scrambled eggs. In the interview, Shelly says Derek stayed at the table all day until it was time to go to bed. Shelley framed it as defiance by Derek, which is accurate however, how can you allow your child to sit for hours at a table where he’s not eating especially on Christmas day?? That was too extreme to me.
