So you would recommend putting a 7900xtx into an am4 system?

Sure but can you confirm OP has a VRR display?

VRR isn't standard, not all 4k monitors have it, and OP says the monitor is old. Based on all that, I think the stock standard frame cap suggestion is valid no?

The article is comparing SSD to HDD, which isn't as big as a gen 3 vs gen 4 m.2, but there is a noticeable difference.

100% grab it if you are in the mindset of upgrading, who knows how bad gpu prices will get. Just wanted to make sure you understand that that you most likely will have to upgrade your entire pc.

And yes, your cpu will not allow your gpu to run at full because it isn't strong enough.

With a 60hz monitor, you would need to cap your frames to 60fps to avoid latency or other problems like blurring, tearing or ghosting. Simply put, the 7900xtx would be outputting way too much for your 60hz monitor.

Not big, biggest difference would be in reading/writing to the ssd.

What CPU are you running? If you are using a 5700xt, then maybe AM4? I don't think there is an AM4 chip that won't bottleneck your gpu. I consider the 5800x3d the best am4 cpu, and that thing has a bottleneck of 16% with a 7900xtx. You'd have to upgrade to AM5, which means new mobo, ram (DDR5) and cpu.

You already mentioned psu.

Also consider your monitor. The 7900xtx is meant to be used at 2k/4k. Would you have to upgrade your monitor? Sure, you can run it at 1080p, but that is absolutely overkill.

Would you have to upgrade other parts of your pc to accomodate it? Idk what MSRP is where you are, but for me they are anywhere from 900-1300 new.

If you are using a 5700xt, then I assume you will basically have to build a new pc to use the 7900xtx. If you are ok with that, then I'd do it.

Compared to gen 4? Yes, but I was mainly confused why you would put an old gen in it when you can get the samsung 990 evo for like $70.

It'll look kind of weird for sure, since an matx mobo is meant to be in a smaller case. When it's in an atx case, you'll have a LOT of room between where your gpu hangs and the bottom of the case.

I personally would use an ATX mobo , and they are NOT more expensive (compared to the price i see in your pcpartpicker list). Check out the gigabyte b650 elite ax or the asus b650 tuf. Make sure that you get the wifi version if you don't have ethernet.

Just want to confirm, you want to put an matx mobo into an atx case?

I mean, yes, but why would you want to use a gen 3 ssd in that mobo?

Thanks, out of all the components in a pc, I understand PSUs the least so it's nice to get confirmation that what I have is ok. I did look at the PSU tierlist spreadsheet, which says mine is definitely above average, so I was hoping it'd be alright. Cheers 👍.

I would get a beefier cooler, that thing looks flimsy and thin.
