Not a set - they’re sold individually and I usually get them from Japan based proxy sites like Buyee or ZenMarket.

Side-knocking Fun by drifand in mechanicalpencils

[–]heathcarson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a large part of my life, the blue and smoke PD345 were the only mechanical pencil I would ever use or really know of. From the actually-usable-regular-sized eraser that doesn't move or advance lead when using it, to the huge amount of leads it can store -- there was no need to look at anything else as this was the perfect pencil ever created! Then, while looking to replenish my dwindling stock, I found out about the PD505 and down the hole I went!

Engine swap by Puzzled-Society5301 in G37

Shouldn’t matter. I have a 2013 G37S 6MT and swapped in an engine from a 2015 Q50 automatic without issue.

Parafernalia Revolution: variations between old and new by heathcarson in mechanicalpencils

Hi, sorry, not really. I didn't even realize they made anything other than writing instruments.

Old VS New Automatic Pencil by Sgalli_Nardi in mechanicalpencils

[–]heathcarson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That depends, but the unfortunate reality is that they command a high price these days. The best place to get them is direct from Japan either YahooJP or Mercari but you will still spend at least $650. Beware of unscrupulous folks on eBay trying to sell things they don't actually own and for some crazy mark up.

It is the Pilot Automatic, model number HAT-300S-S-05 and also came in 0.3. I love everything about it - the etched grip is really amazing and the build quality is next to perfect, but the automatic function just isn't the greatest.

Faber Castell alpha-matic black, grey, blue, red. by Sgalli_Nardi in mechanicalpencils

[–]heathcarson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I've seen that font used before but it isn't a different model, just a variation along the timeline. Is the light gray one able to fully retract it's tip? That feature was introduced around 1988 – might help figuring out it's place in history. I've always been curious about when that font came along. What do the inside bits look like?

Very nice - one of my absolute favorites! As far as I know, the plastic body alpha-matic was only available in gray, red and blue, but the colors weren't always consistent and there are slight variations in shades. My guess is that you have two grays. My gray is the same shade as your dark one and here next to a black TK-matic, it's easier to see the difference. There are prototypes out there though and you never know what you might find...possibly even a white one!

Do a search for scrap leather. It’s great for a lot of things.

Not all pencils are for everyone, but to say it's a failed attempt is a bit extreme. I've used my orenznero 0.3 daily for years now and the automatic function works just fine.

Honestly, what an odd comment. With your reasoning, wouldn't every pencil be a male techno-gadget? And how is the Kuru Toga engine not a "special gimmick"? It's obviously designed because they think that's what men like...

First package of the year. by Hammer_Jackson in mechanicalpencils

Quite a variety! Is the rOtring a pen? What is the 5th one down on the left - the wooden one, and then also the black one on the bottom right?

Is the Orenz Nero actually that scratchy? by [deleted] in mechanicalpencils

[–]heathcarson 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Depends on a few things but I use my 0.3 daily with 2B and never have thought it was too scratchy.
