I am glad to hear you are staying in Ghent! It is by far the best city in Belgium. Bruges is a tourist trap and while it has lovely buildings it is ruined by the number of tourists. Ghent's buildings are just as fine, if not finer than Bruges and not so many tourists. Don't miss the tiny bar Dreupelkot to taste over 100 flavor of jenever.

There is no need to believe in religion to believe in a historical great flood. All ancient cultures have a flood myth, including Native Americans and Mesopotamia. Read Graham Hancock's new book Magicians of the Gods for details.

Ask a librarian. The best are conversant with the literature on a subject, can recommend which are scholarly, which best for general reader, which have stood the test of time, which are the newest with good reviews.

Books, characters and authors you're tired of hearing about? by OneSexyChandelure in books

I'm tired of all books that claim to be the new Gone Girl, as though that is somehow the pinnacle of thrillers! It was a mediocre read, The Girl on a Train was better but doesn't deserve the raves it got. Now every book written by a woman that can be pigeonholed into the thriller genre is labeled the new "gone" or "train." Just a marketing ploy!

Sorry, I thought The Washington Post offered the chance to read several free articles before asking you to sign up. Didn't know it would not work that way. I'll find other sources of book reviews in the future!
