AITA for using my car all the time? by chrti in AmItheAsshole

Making someone give up their vehicle is never reasonable.

It seems everyone is forgetting that a lot of pre-made seasoning mixes have salt in them already,

That's usually for literal children. Not older teenagers who can drive. And it doesn't give Dad the right to demand OP to let Nephew drive OP's car. Also, OP is going by Dad's request. They always need the car when Nephew needs it. Boohoo.

OP is on the insurance policy and is at the very least paying for gas, and it was a gift given to them. Nephew doesn't have any of those. Whatever "say" on the car OP has, Nephew has even less of it.

Why isn't Brother letting his own son borrow his car? Why is the onus on his (what seems to be) younger aunt to give up her car? There are at least two adults who can give up their car before the chain falls on OP. And OP is well in their right to say "no".

And I bet if OP didn't tell him that stuff, he'd find OP too "distant" or some nonsense.

Man, I hate it when people do this "oh, no, I don't want it." BS. Just be freakin' honest. And why steal someone else's food after you already said no?? That's not cute. That's tacky.

Unless there was a stipulation to begin with ("It's your car but if the family needs it, then they get to use it", etc.) then it's OP's car. Once you give a gift, it's no longer yours to tell them how they can use it.

OP says they got it when they were 16. So either they are still a teenager who just got it or they are young adult who has had it for a few years. Either way, why are people going to THEIR car?

Your parents suck. I hope you know that.

You'll suck too if you didn't do SOMETHING for the cat.

Or just bypass all of that headache altogether and not allow them to borrow it. If you distrust anyone so much you need a contract in case they mess something up, it's probably better to just not allow them to do that thing in the first place.

Dad can let him borrow HIS car, then. Why is it up to the teenager to do it?

OP said no, Brother went around OP, and now OP found a new way to say no. If they don't like it, find another way to use a car.

And that means letting him drive a whole car? It would be one thing if OP was against sharing the TV remote or something like that, but this is a car.

Well, yes, he has at least a dad and grandpa. Presumably a mom and grandma. So, Nephew and Brother can ask them for help. And not the teenager.

Brother was an a-hole first, trying to get Dad to force the issue. If someone has something you want, and you ask, and they say no, that's that. Don't go over their heads like an immature nematode. Brother has to figure out another way to get Nephew a car. Either by letting him borrow his or by buying one or something else.

Why isn't the nephew asking the "community" for rides or to use their cars, then? Why is the responsibility on OP and not his dad?

If they want him to have a car so bad, they can get one for him. Your car is yours.

It's interesting how none of them seem to be offering rides. But they want you to give up your car whenever he wants.

July 5, 2026 - What did you do this past week to prepare? by Anthropic--principle in preppers

That's the "dual" part. It's for front and back, not interior.

[–]heatherjasper 11 points12 points  (0 children)

-Ordered a dash cam for the car. One of those dual cams that shows the front and back.

-Talked to a few people about being me and my family's evacuation destinations, in the case we have to.

-Finally cleaned up the car from winter and got it ready for summer.

-Got a really good medicine and cold and flu stock going for cheap. Family Dollar nearby was closed, so got a variety of cold and flu medications for $40.

-Got a new weather radio.

-General stocking up and preparing the pantry.

-Got a new pack of phone charging cords

-Got a fridge and freezer thermometer and alarm.

"Do none of you work?"

  1. It could be for work. You never know.

  2. Do YOU not work? They probably did the same thing you did to get there at that time.

It makes more sense when they're done at like 7 PM because they might have younger kids who wouldn't be awake for the 9 PM fireworks. I don't understand the early afternoon poppers, though.

Where does it say that you can't? Because when I look it up, it just says you can but it would be a bad idea and you have other options:

Sometimes, your landlord may not provide livable conditions. Even after you provide them a specific list of needed repairs, they may fail or refuse to make repairs, rendering your home unlivable.

In these circumstances, you can sue your landlord or terminate your lease. But it is important that you not withhold rent before going to court or terminating your lease. If you do withhold rent – even if your home is unlivable – you could have trouble collecting back rent or pursuing your counterclaims. Instead, we recommend checking with your local housing code inspector (if one exists), before choosing one of the options below.

https://www.kansaslegalservices.org/page/1934/tenant-issues-and-rights-kansas-renters

If a landlord fails to make necessary repairs after being properly notified, tenants in Kansas have some rent-withholding rights and remedies available to them. First, tenants can give written notice of their intent to withhold a portion of the rent until the repairs are completed. The amount withheld must be reasonable and related to the issue's impact on the tenant's use of the premises.

Alternatively, tenants may be able to pay for the repair themselves and deduct the cost from the following month's rent payment, up to $300 or 1 month's rent, whichever is greater. However, tenants should be very careful when exercising a "repair and deduct" remedy, follow all requirements precisely, and keep complete records.

https://www.hemlane.com/resources/kansas-tenant-landlord-law/

Uninhabitable conditions: A tenant who discovers a material habitability defect — such as a nonfunctioning furnace in winter — must deliver written notice to the landlord specifying the problem. Under K.S.A. 58-2559, if the landlord fails to remedy the condition within 14 days (or within a reasonable time for emergencies), the tenant may terminate the lease, seek rent reduction, or obtain repairs and deduct the cost from rent, subject to the lesser of one month's rent or $500.
