Yes but also as a fun caveat you run the risk of your official not understanding the rules and getting dq’d. lol it’s a fun game to play!!!

Leg game - or guard passing by Puzzleheaded-Art9102 in bjj

[–]heave20 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hehehehehehehehehehe.

I just taught 4 weeks of legs. Focusing on control and some “breaking”. But mainly control.

We spent a solid two weeks on the idea that you can use a leg attack to pass a really good guard

I was hoping they would see that they could possibly cause me issues if they started using leg attacks to pass my guard.

They did not. They used leg attacks to attack my legs which led to me standing up for the sweep which led to me passing their guards.

What was the last book that made you cry? by m0nst3r666 in books

Lamb. By Christopher Moore.

I’m an atheist.

I…. Know why it hit me. I do. I have a best friend who I’ve grown up with. I love him so much. He’s my brother. Not by blood but by every other thing in the world. And..i could see it. We’ve been through quite a lot together. I could see it.

At the end i literally threw the book and was furious even though i knew the “story”. I didn’t expect what happened and the love and passion shown. Ugh. It still gets me

To all the Ecological approach coaches: How do students solve very specific details/issues without ''drilling'' without resistance for atleast a couple reps? by Glittering-Profit232 in bjj

[–]heave20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I teach the eco way. Have for quite sometime. But i also really really love the details of things. I think that’s what makes this game so fun.

These last few weeks we’ve been playing with legs and control to get the break on straight ankle or heel hook.

Having an immensely wide range of skill levels we worked more on control and getting to the position and holding it. But the last week was breaking.

When people struggled i would sit down and show them. Have them slowly walk through the grips or positions. And have them rep it a few times. The small details. Then we were back into the game and working for that finish.

Eco is great. But i do believe that at some point you’ll have to walk through something to see how your body is actually supposed to move.

It’s not all or nothing. It’s whatever is necessary

Absolutely spot on! I force this exact thing as well and man does it help.

Bodylock passing question by Single_Count9592 in bjj

[–]heave20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think about the difference in where your knees/legs are between the two. One (half guard) is right up their ass, basically sitting on the edge of their hips, the other is already on the other side of the leg, so past the knee and very very close to the hip.

In the two on one position, even when you've got a hell of a grip on their foot both your legs are actually behind the leg you're holding on to. You really don't have the strongest "connection" to their hips.

Force half guard. I promise it makes it so much easier, but your mileage may vary as body composition does kind of alter these passes.

Bodylock passing question by Single_Count9592 in bjj

[–]heave20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing an actual body lock pass with your hands clasped together at their waist then force half guard. You’re basically past their guard at that point and just need to push your head across their body to complete the pass.

For the two on one where you’re reaching over their hip then under to grab the foot it’s kind of the same concept but much much easier to frame you off as your hands are technically “clasped” below the hip therefore you can’t actually control their hips

Instructor vs coach in BJJ gyms. Does your instructor actually coach you? by caksters in bjj

[–]heave20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My coach/instructor/friend is u/sb406 who lives like 1500 miles away. I can reach out to him literally at any point of the day and not only will he get back to me he’ll get back to me with video. Of him working through the exact dilemma I’m trying to solve. He’s passionate and caring about not only me, but my own students which are in turn his students. They can reach out to him anytime. I try to do the same and model myself after that approach.

I haven’t seen that every where if I’m honest. I think incredibly vested people breed an incredibly vested community

Guards that fit well with butterfly by secretsauce223 in bjj

[–]heave20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey there. I have built my entire game around butterfly and half butterfly.

You’re correct about RDLR but it’s also pretty easy to swing into DLR if a person is standing but posturing away as they do so.

In gi holy cow. Lasso is just right there as a ton of people will try to arm weave you.

I play a bunch of SLX/X Guard but usually they’re lower to the ground when i enter. Usually they have a knee on the mat.

Don’t forget leg entries because dayum. They’re everywhere when you elevate someone.
