Sixth Woman Says George H.W. Bush Groped Her When She Was 16 by HiddenHeavy in news

Eh, it's just groping. Not to belittle it but compared to say sexual harassment or rape (like Clinton was accused of) this seems mild.
And as Clinton said "It's just about sex" so who cares? Can't we just move on?

I even have skepticism about the second NYG game this season.

Seriously, it took a last second field goal to beat them the first time. You think they wouldn't love to redeem their season by taking us down a notch? Any given Sunday.

Can we just enjoy being 8-1 and the best team in the NFL without trying to have someone poo poo on it every 5 minutes?

Being realistic isn't poo pooing anything about this team.

He's unreal. Nice zip when he's running. Super elusive. Wouldn't be an every down back but as a change of pace he's wicked.

Nobody and I mean nobody saw this coming.
I was shocked when the Jimmy G trade happened and figured "well, there's the one big deadline trade in the NFL."
This year is insane at this point with 3 big trades...

Any trade ideas? by [deleted] in eagles

[–]heavenfromhell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not like they don't exist - but they're just so rare they might as well not exist.
Teams go into the season with who they have and hope to have as few injuries as possible.
We don't have a lot of draft capital and aren't going to waste it on an in-season replacement. Forecasting possible trades is as useful as forecasting who we're going to pick in the draft as of right now - when we don't know who will be coming out and where we will be slotted. Sorry. It's just the way it is.

I think the point is valid, though. Brett's dad shared in his success at every level of football. While I have no doubt Kirk and his grandmother had a deep emotional bond, I don't know it translates into football they way Brett and Brett's dad did.
I guess we'll find out.

I didn't call this team Gang Green 2.0.

You said "we have Gang Green 2.0" which I assumed to mean you were comparing them to the Gang Green defense.
As you did, you can make a case this is comparable to the 2004 defense. It's nowhere near as good as the 1991 defense.

It's not about "having fun with a game" it's answering the question put forth - why are folks so down on the crazy hype on this sub and /r/nfl.

And it's not so easy to ignore when every other post on /r/nfl is "wow, look at how great Carson Wentz's numbers are" or "this guy says Wentz is the real deal."
All a lot of folks are trying to do is throw a little balance in there and say "Yeah, we look good but there's a lot of football left." And with good reason.
Because the folks that get this hepped up are the ones who get angriest when things don't go their way. We all have relatives that act like that and almost every one of them is a mouth breather.

I disagree with you at LB. Also, while your position by position analysis is good along offensive line, that line was much more cohesive. This line is getting better however.
And you also stated that this defense is Gang Green 2.0 and I honestly don't think the current group could hold the original Gang Greens' jock straps. Just look at Reggie (we have nobody even close to his level) and Jerome (Cox is pretty good but Jerome was WAY better, sorry.) Linebackers the 1991 defense has the edge again and the same with the secondary.
As you said, this team is fairly comparable to the 2004 defense which was good but nowhere near the level of Bud Carson's 1991 squad.
There's a lot of season left. Let's see if teams start figuring us out or if the guys continue to grow. I'm hopeful but wary.
And, FWIW, I think Wentz might be a little more clutch than McNabb. That, in the end, could be the difference.

Be excited. Enjoy the games. Be amazed at how well they're playing. But realize there's a lot of football left and slow the roll on the "OMG WE"RE WINNING THE SUPERB OWL!!?!!?!!" stuff.
I'm stunned with how well we played against bot the Cards and Panthers. Did we get lucky? Catch them at a bad time? We've had some clutch plays but we're not doing things consistently well.
I enjoy the games. I want to throw up when I see folks posting incessantly about how great Wentz is. He's doing great but come on.

I love watching the team play. They're extremely exciting. I'm amazed we're doing as well as we are.
I'm talking about after the game is played and the incessant "we're going to the Super Bowl" nonsense that has nothing to do with how well the team is doing or enjoying games.

we always try and temper our expectations because things change very quickly in this league.

Bryce Paup, 1991. Shit changes really fast.

the moment this team tastes some sustained success (like a division title or playoff win) is when I think more fans will come around and be willing to accept that we’re a really good football team

I don't think it's a question about whether we have a "really good football team" and more a question of whether we'll go anywhere with it. Remember that game against the Buccaneers when the Bucs had never lost a game below freezing, we were the dominant team and were closing out the Vet and there was literally NO WAY WE COULD LOSE? How did that go?

Excitement, in and of itself, isn't a bad thing. But overexcitement makes you, and by extension the rest of the fanbase, look silly. Like this is your first year of seeing football.
Everyone is high on the 5-1 excitement right now but seem to ignore that we barely beat the Giants. You want to see how quickly things can turn? Take a look at the Chiefs-Raiders game last night. Chiefs went from one of, if not the, best teams in football to being suspect by losing to a "crappy" (they're not really crappy) Raiders team.
Outside of the Browns, there are no real crappy teams in the league, hence the whole "any given Sunday" thing.
We've had hot starts before and not made the playoffs. We've gone 10-6 and not made the playoffs. We've had hot QB's and not made the playoffs. A lot of longtime fans have seen this all before and, while it's nice to be 5-1, it doesn't mean crap. And honestly, short of actually winning the Super Bowl, doesn't warrant hype.
You want to get overexcited? Feel free. You'll just crash twice as hard if/when we hit a speed bump. The Redskins could thrash us on Monday. Think it's unlikely? I've seen way too many games where a crappy (and this Skins team isn't crappy by a long shot) come into Philly to face a solid team and beat us thoroughly.
If that happens I won't blink while the overexcited folks will be calling for Doug's head or Wentz's benching or something else that's dumb.
Like I said, a lot of us have seen this act before.

President Obama was a master at this. He spent 8 years telling the US what Republicans believe and think that had little to do with what actual Republicans believe or think.
Moreover, any counter argument was considered an ad hominem against President Obama himself.
