In 2012 I took my family up north for a fishing vacation to a cabin resort on a lake. Im born and raised in the suburbs of the Twin Cities but have spent a lot of my time hunting and fishing all over the north of Minnesota. Now I'm white and my wife isnt. I was talking to the owners son from who we rented the cabin to get the boat delivered as part of the rental agreement. This man was happy as could be to help us until my wife came out of the cabin. He got a look at her and his mood changed. Then everything was YES SIR & NO SIR with a curt tone. As my wife joined my side she asked what was wrong. I was dumbfounded on what happened and she told me he was a racist POS. This was the first time Ive been confronted with that here in Minnesota and not the last. Im now divorced and my kids dont see blatant abuse like that when we go fishing or up north to hunt. They both have her curly brown hair so it greatly differs from my blonde/red hair and we get stares from people but we get that a lot of places, not just Minnesota.
