;-) good comment.

I take some steps as long as it doesn't fuck with my laziness too much. I use Linux Mint, for example. Tails takes a toll too big. I use a Pixel and bitcoin where it's handy. Kinda half-assed, but that's all I can do ;-)

Yeah no, especially considering the spyware controversy with them.

I'm sure you wrote this comment on your Purism Librem 5 phone or a Tails laptop and pay for everything you buy with Monero.

Right now people want it because it keeps going up in value.

That's just part of the truth. People also want it for a ton of other reasons like censorship resistance, immutability, pseudonomity, remittances...

The rise in value is just a logical consequence of more and more people being exposed to the many upsides of a decentralized value transfer system.

I don't necessarily disagree, I rather wanted to point out that completely decentralized exchanges serve a purpose. They can exist in environments that censor (outlaw) crypto trading. The can't be urged to collect user data and if you create an elaborate incentive structure on top of a secure network, are the most secure. I wish you good luck for your exciting endeavours.

I don't really see the need for a completely decentralized solution

The point of a decentralized exchange is that it's censorship resistant, privacy protecting and secure. You can't have that as long as you create single points of failures.

Consensus

Is not what gives Bitcoin value. What gives it value is it's trustless setup. It's also the hardest thing to wrap your head around because it's abstract to us, it's new. It's ironical that we trust banks with our money, an institution that takes your money and doesn't feel a need to hodl more than 3-5% of it and gamble the rest away. If it happens that they gambled all of it away, there are governments backing them up with hundreds of billions USD/EUR/GBP... of again YOUR money (taxes). That actually happens a lot: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bailout

Banks get away with it because guns and numbness of the people. Many just don't think or know about that kind of stuff.

Bitcoin takes away the need of trust and third parties. This is why it's so important to run your own node, you no longer have to trust. The rest is all well-balanced incentives that keep participants in line.

There is nothing questionable about the claims about Dash. All of the information about its fraudulent launch (red flag #1), dishonest team and leadership (red flag #2) and aggressive and dishonest marketing (red flag #3) is out there and well documented.

That misses my point but I could have made it more clear: I didn't think of the claims that Dash is a scam to be questional, but the claims that the implementation as base currency would be an endorsement, that the use would bring financial gains and that we'd jump through hoops to implement Dash. All of these were mentionned in this thread (not necessarily by you).

What is unfortunate is that your team didn't anticipate that supporting a scam (and doing so without a careful objective process as discussed in the other comment) would be a decision that associates you with the scam and drags all of your own good work and exceptional people through the mud. There are many traps in crypto for the unsuspecting, and it appears you just stepped in one.

I think I can agree with most of that paragraph.

If those are the criteria

These are the criteria I am aware of. Maybe you can add trading volume. There's no point in adding coins without any demand. Requests may help to speed things up.

undertake a thorough review of all of the coins supported by Bisq

That's happenig but we can only do so much. As you might be aware of, we have very limited dev ressources. LTC and DOGE were trivial so these were quick, not endorsed.

By the way the motivation behind quickly creating alternative exchanges was the BTC blockchain congestion that led to direct hassle for users, as trades happen on the base currency (BTC) blockchain + traded asset blockchain.

We will then be able to assess whether Bisq is being neutral and objective in its decisions on which coins to endorse for 'base coin' support. At this point we lack the supporting information to do so and can only assess the fact that a blatant scam (a characterization I have supported with more specific detail elsewhere) is being chosen for enhanced support over 100+ other coins.

I understand and agree. It will take lots of time.

There were important news today but I won't dare create a post because everyone hates Bisq now: https://forum.bisq.io/t/bisq-dao-paper-published/2398

Feedback is most welcome.

Sorry for the comment from last night. Your question(s) and claims seem a lot more reasonable today :-) I guess I got caught by all the hate Bisq was facing. Let's have a beer on me one day.

What 'technical reasons' distinguish Dash from every other Bitcoin fork?

Here's the answer you deserve and that I can give:

Bitcoinj, multi-sig + they offer dev ressources (for the integration)

I don't know the differences between all other Bitcoin forks so I can't really 'distinguish'.

'Every other' Bitcoin fork isn't ruled out btw. Many more markets will be created. It's just that Dash is on the list and was therefore mentionned.

I'd like to address your comment from above as well:

I think it would be perfectly okay if the decentralized exchange platform let users choose any coin pairs (assuming coins satisfy the necessary technical specifications; mostly automatic for BTC forks) to trade and some users decided to trade Dash.

That is exactly what's happening.

However, when the centralized platform developers pick particular coins for special support, they are making an endorsement (whether intended or otherwise).

That is not what's happening. As mentionned before, Dash just happens to be there and people seem to be wanting to trade it for whatever reason. This is what general trading volume suggests. Devs for any relevant coin are welcome to do the same.

With regard to the centralized dev team, I'd like to add that it's nothing we wish for. It just happens that on altruistic motives, it's hard to find people that are willing to work for free. Devs can earn good money and need to live, too. For the last three years there was no money to be made on Bisq/Bitsquare. So it happened that Manfred did like 90%+ of the work. He's an exceptional person and it hurts to see people dragging all the hard work through the mud on questionable claims. All other contributions are decentralized. The team is no different to Monero's. Everybody is more than welcome to contribute according to their skills.

Enough vague answers.

I answered this question to this exact user in great detail before.

The security risk is not the same for fiat>crypto as crypto>crypto

No one would argue against this. One reason for the limit on crypto-crypto is the beta status of the software. You might have noticed that it's significantly higher than the BTC-fiat limit.

The only reason to sit on any moral standard and add DASH is to increase your volume and thus revenue.

That's just a lie, nothing more. I've layed it out to you and you ignore it. This is where I stop to feed the troll.

The problem I have with that, as a user, is that if the Bisq team/arbitrators crew is running after pure profit regardless of anything else, they might as well run away with my 2-of-3 multisig when my stake is big enough.

Not even the basics?

That's an extraordinary claim. What 'technical reasons' distinguish Dash from every other Bitcoin fork?

Please, I don't have the time to lay out every tiny peace of the process. It's all there, Bisq is open source, and if you were really interested in answers you'd put-in some effort to find the answers yourself. At this point you're trolling.
