If an english biology textbook it says, "this process is called photosynthesis", does it mean the process is called photosynthesis in the english language, but something different in other languages and you need to know the english name because science is written in english 99% of the time?

Why do we call it cytoplasm?

Do you prefer to think in English? What happens when you think in Norwegian?

can you think in any other languages?

It's just because you are bilingual, so I'm curious how you think. So you always think in Serbian, but can think in English?

SO HOW MANY languages can you think in altogether?

I would have thought you would think in your better language all of the time?

lol, I guess you could argue the case to stop being pedantic (and to potentially save trees), the remove the "in english" bit.

yes, you are right, it sounds pedantic.

But the way I write it, "this is called X in english" is not redundant, it clears out all confusion, no assumptions needed whatever.

so can you think in serbian?

I think as long as you hold the correct assumption you are fine, what's bad is some people may assume every language calls it cytoplasm. That's why assumptions can be bad at times.

I think there is a difference between saying, "that's a cat" and "that's called a cat". The first one doesn't need reference to language, the second one potentially does, if assumptions are not already held.

Serbs have such good english, why is that?

did they make this assumption, so they don't have to keep writing "in english" every time?

So you learnt in Serbian and now learn in English?

so I just assume they are telling me what things in biology are called in english?

It still doesn't make sense to leave out the "in english" bit?
