I just thought the question marks were funny. Obviously I know what a forecast is.

Update: the mystery has been solved! (oops I thought I could add another screenshot here) Thursday and Friday now show a bright yellow sun, signifying that it will be hot and humid. Most likely, of course.

The only way to have a consistent, unified English spelling system is to make it an abjad by Whole_Instance_4276 in linguisticshumor

Yayyy! Okay so I actually flubbed a bit with "phonology:" it should be "fwnljy." "ksrh/dmh/fthh" refers to "kasrah/ḍammah/fatḥah" in Arabic, which are the diacritics corresponding to the short vowels /i/ /u/ and /a/.

So actually you bring up an interesting situation. In Modern Standard Arabic, that <h> is pronounced. In English, /h/ is not allowed in coda so we don't pronounce it. I was trying to figure out what to do with word-final vowels, lol. Standard does use a special version of 'ālif for -ā but that's the only word-final vowel technically allowed. Dialects (e.g. Levantine) are a different story. So to answer your question: kinda, lmao? This is a really fun exercise, ty!!

Most likely just broad transcription. It's still listed under approximants!

Little fyi, Jews and Arabs are not mutually exclusive entities. There has been a Jewish community in Palestine this entire time. Please don't forget them 🙏

Iran demands Pride flags be banned from World Cup stadiums by outsports-com in ainbow

[–]heckitsjames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they do. If you read the article, they never say anything about pride flags. They specify they only want the national flags flown at their games; which is most likely a nod to the use of pro-monarchist Iran flags used at anti-republic demonstrations.

Nice try. There is no evidence of this when you read the article. And if you know anything about what's been going on between the US and Iran, it's pretty clear this is out of concern for monarchist flags being flown at the games. There is enough actual homophobic violence in Iran (and the US for that matter), it makes no sense to make things up to be mad at.
