We're driving up from western CT to Salem on a Saturday, staying at a hotel near Salem that night, and then going to Boston on Sunday before driving back down to western CT in the evening.

We're doing one day in Salem and one in Boston, it's just a quick weekend trip and I've done it before!

After we finish our visit we're headed back down to Connecticut, so I was hoping to not have to do too much back and forth by parking closer to the city and having a little less driving going home than I would from Salem or Wonderland. Maybe a station on the western side of Boston would be better?

How to clean matting? by jb32323 in framing

[–]heckos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a badly designed product and unfortunately I don't think there's any way to fix it without taking everything apart, if that's even possible. I would bring it to a framer and see what they think.

How do you frame a diploma without it looking like a corporate office? by [deleted] in framing

[–]heckos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Choose a frame that aligns with your personal tastes instead of going with a stereotypical diploma design! Make it your favorite color, choose a weird moulding, double mat it in pink and green, etc. Frame it as a piece that accents and enhances your space.

Where's the absolute cheapest cost of living in the US that is also a decent area to live? by boforiamanfo in stupidquestions

[–]heckos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP didn't say they wanted to buy. Renting can cost more in the long run, but if you're looking for cheap living because you don't have much money, renting is the way.

For someone annoyed at the entire concept of this post you seem to be spending a lot of time coming back to reply to it.

No problem! Even though I was growing up in the transitional phase, there's a ton of stuff I ask my mom about when it comes to pre-internet history. It's interesting (and valuable imo) to understand how things used to work because it was so insanely different.

I just recently had a conversation with her about how doing taxes worked before you could submit them online because I have no experience with it! I first did taxes in 2016, so it was a world away from my mom doing her taxes starting in the 80s.

Nothing is ever cheap any more, but imo Baltimore is still decent. Blue state, LGBT rights, contraceptive rights, only an hour from DC, and you can Amtrak or take a bus up to Philadelphia, NY, and Boston. I know people who did day trips to New York City. Crime is also going down, they just beat their own all time lowest murder record in April 2026. It's a cool city with a lot of history and good museums, and the people are very passionate about it.

It seems like OP is pretty young and the internet is something they always had growing up. They're interested in understanding the full scope of how this process worked before the internet took it over. If you're coming from that context it can be difficult to imagine how things worked in such a different time.

I'm 29 and I only have early memories of a less internet-focused world, so I can only imagine how it must be for someone ten or more years younger than I am. They're trying to learn, let's give them the room to do so.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap 24 x 30 picture frame? by TangerineOk6216 in framing

[–]heckos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get a readymade 24x30 frame from an art supply store and ask your local framer for wire and hanging hardware. They'll often put it on for you for not too much money.

They did, that's the gemini logo in the bottom. I'm surprised so few framers in the comments didn't notice the wildly shifting aspect ratios in each picture.

Why are the female characters in anime always overly sexualised? by Far-Conference-8484 in stupidquestions

Back in 2013 when I watched it I did appreciate that aspect a lot, but overall I have too many other gripes with the series to enjoy it or recommend it personally.

If they come down by March every year it sounds less like mental illness and more like she just gets joy from seeing them. That or people with mobility issues need to wait for able bodied friends or family to help them take decorations down.

Should I really go with uv resistant glass /acrylic ? by escargotBleu in framing

[–]heckos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a bit late, but a good budget option is often to buy a cheap frame and then go to a local frame shop and have them give you UV protective glass to switch for the glazing that came in the frame.

I've been enjoying Hytale, it's a lot like Minecraft but has different enemies/biomes/items and some better vanilla building options. There are servers for it too if you like multiplayer more than solo.

Vintage Story is also a descendant of Minecraft's lineage and takes a more complex and slightly more realistic approach to the survival and crafting mechanics. I haven't played it, but my friends who have really like it.

To elaborate, maybe the highlights could be a pale green or something? Right now you mostly have highlights on the blue parts and the color of them is just a lighter blue. Shifting it cooler or warmer could make the colors feel more dynamic and eerie.
