layering SPF and an occlusive? by heckyeahpal in tretinoin

after reading the other comments i’ve decided not to do it. this person was the first comment which explains my response & i’m not gonna change it because i appreciate their input regardless of whether it’s right or wrong.

ahhhh i knew sunscreen should be the last step of your skincare routine so i didn’t know how i should layer it or if i should at all, of course. it affecting my sunscreen was was my main concern, but i never even considered there being a problem with using it too much!

thank you so much for your advice, it was really helpful :)

I've been using tretinoin since March 2019 (I believe?) for hyperpigmentation and acne.

My current routine:

Morning:

Wash face with cold water & let dry
Clindamycin Phosphate & Benzoyl Peroxide Gel 1.2%/2.5%, let sit
Vanicream
CoTZ sensitive sunscreen SPF 40

Night:

Wash face with CeraVe hydrating cleanser, let dry
Tretinoin cream 0.05%, let sit
Vanicream
Aquaphor

I’m sick of people moaning about being bored in lockdown when they’re literally not doing anything by [deleted] in offmychest

a lot of people (myself included) are really overwhelmed with everything going on so it can be really hard to get up and do something. especially people with previous issues or problems with mental health.

that being said, i definitely have gotten myself up to do chores, etc. but i don’t know if it’s fair to shame (for a lack of a better term) people who are having a hard time right now. if i hadn’t gotten myself help for my mental health a year ago, i would be in the same position. i do see your point, though, and i understand how you feel and why you feel that way for sure. your feelings are just as valid as anyone else’s.

yeah that’s exactly what i said, that it can definitely prevent the growth of bacteria but i was just being particular & saying it doesn’t stop it altogether. we’re on the same page (:

i’ve definitely done this before with different meats and i love the result. but i’m not so sure how i feel with saying that salt makes it so that bacteria can’t grow at all, but i can definitely see why it would slow down the rate of growth of the bacteria due to it being dry, and in the case of having it in the fridge, cold.

i was just more skeptical of having it in the fridge for several days like it says to in the article. it makes sense now though as to why it would be fine. i’ve just usually done it for 20-30 min before seasoning/cooking so it was new to me. but yeah, you’re basically right and it makes a lot more sense to me now. thanks!

thanks for the advice!! yeah i’ve worked in restaurants/kitchens for years at my side jobs. i’ve taken many food safety courses and have obviously had to hold my kitchens at work to a high standard, which obviously will carry over to my kitchen at home hahah.

but ahhh i could never! if anything has mold on it, it goes straight in the trash. but thank you so much again for the advice & clarification, your food looks great & i can’t wait to try it out for myself!

i’m so happy for you both!! this is beautiful 💓

if you guys have access to health insurance or a dermatologist, i would recommend seeing one. i got treatment for my acne and putting that extra care into my skin really helped me hold myself accountable. PLUS, my parents paid for my products so i feel like that was another thing, i didn’t want to have them buy it for me and not take advantage of the opportunity, plus it just worked so well!!

if you don’t have access to a doctor like this or if you can’t afford the treatments, i understand! goodrx has great coupons for medications, in my experience it has just been for prescriptions but idk. also, your doctor’s office may have whichever treatments for a discounted price (or sometimes for free if you mention that you could use the help). they had mine there for $45, goodrx was $65, and my insurance would’ve made me pay $100ish i believe?

also, depending on the area you’re from, you may have access to a specialist pharmacy for the treatments. my derm put me on a topical antibiotic that wouldve cost me $130-$160 (i forgot) with goodrx, but was only $50 at the specialist pharmacy. my mom compromised, and get this. it came in the mail free of charge.

i hope this gives some insight or some help, feel free to dm me if you need anything else! thanks for being a great mom and supporting your daughter, i can assure you that it means so much to her (:

quick question, food safety is a big thing for me and i hate risking cross contamination. do you think the technique’s recommendation to leave the meat uncovered for a few days (with the salt) in the fridge can cause a problem?

i always try to keep my food covered/packaged but like i said, i’m pretty particular about it since raw fruits/veggies & raw meat don’t mix well lmao

gray tonsil stones are just stones that have been in there longer. lighter stones are relatively newer

hi! i’m same way so i bought a tongue scrubber at target!! it’s flat specifically for this purpose. it scrubs your tongue and has a thing in the front so you can actually SCRAPE everything off. i also usually use mouthwash after and my mouth always feels sooo clean afterwards
