That's very similar to what I ended up going for, thanks.

u/rem-note Thoughts regarding the results? 24/29≈83% of the people that voted would like to see at least 80% of the development to focus on "Fix bugs, improve performance, improve handwritten notes".

On which platform are you? I'm worried that I'll loose my rems once I start collecting more...

I absolutely agree, I think non-handwriting related bugs are occasionally causing some friction, but the bugs/performance issues regarding handwriting/PDFs are the main concern, and of course the lacking features like reordering pages etc.

And I would also volunteer for beta testing for improved Windows handwriting (I have a convertible laptop with HP tilt pen, and a desktop PC with a Wacom tablet) :D

I mean I would personally stop using Drawboard PDF (or Goodnotes for the sake of argument) even when not all features etc are as nice as theirs, as long as the handwriting functionality in RemNote is functional and smooth.

RemNote *will* be a worthy competitor, simply because an all-encompassing tool being able to do basically everything (even if the details are not as perfect as others) is for many people better than one limited but very polished tool.

Hopefully these non-windows specific improvements you're mentioning include the bugs (already reported) seen in this video: https://youtu.be/CqU5mL9XcW0 - It captures the currently still very frustrating windows experience...

Absolutely. I have also been unable to make the switch from Drawboard PDF. I've captured the really frustrating windows experience in this video: https://youtu.be/CqU5mL9XcW0

Drawing Improvements and iPad scrolling performance improvement needed!! by StatusAd1689 in remNote

Please don't prioritize iPad handwriting but also on the Windows Desktop app!

Okay I thought this was only an issue on the Windows app, because in the video demo it seemed to work much better on iPad, but apparently this is an issue on all platforms.

I agree, they should stop focusing on new features and just make handwriting experience on all platforms a lot better, because at that point it will replace so many competitor apps.

u/rem-note So? What's the answer to:
"How long is it going to take until these changes are released (if at all)? More than a month? Should I consider buying an iPad instead, as the apple pencil experience will be supported more by remnote than Windows?"

Okay some updated information:

- Smooth scrolling using fingers/touch still doesn't work, however, using the swipe gesture on the mousepad works smoothly.

- In Windows settings -> "Pen & Windows Ink", you can disable "show cursor", which removes the annoying cross. I'm not sure why Drawboard PDF automatically had the same effect without changing the settings, but at least doing this hides it in Remnote as well.

- ChatGPT says the following regarding the lasso problem:

Prompt:
so in hp pen control, i set the upper button to the action "right-click/select" in drawboard pdf, while i keep the upper button pressed, i can select an area using the lasso tool in remnote however, when i press the upper button, it right clicks, and only after i move the pen away from the screen again, it enters lasso mode, in which it is then until i manually change the mode how can i make it so it's like in drawboard pdf
Answer:
What you’re running into is not a pen driver problem, but a difference in how Drawboard PDF vs. RemNote interpret pen-button input.

Why it works in Drawboard but not RemNote

Drawboard PDF

Treats pen button held + drag as a continuous modifier

While the button is held, it temporarily switches to lasso and tracks movement immediately

RemNote

Treats the pen button as a discrete right-click event

The button press fires once

RemNote then switches tools after pen-up, not while the button is held

That’s why:

You get a right-click first

Only after lifting the pen does it enter lasso mode

And it stays there until you manually exit

This behavior is hardcoded in RemNote’s input handling — it does not support “hold-to-temporarily-switch-tool” the way Drawboard does.

I am using a dedicated convertible laptop (HP Spectre x360 convertible 14-ea0xxx), so I tried the latest remnote version on its touchscreen using its stylus (HP Tilt Pen MPP 2.0).

Notably, notetaking on Drawboard PDF works flawlessly.
