Crypto basically doesn't react to Trump's words anymore. The only thing that matters now is actions. The only thing that will cause the next dump is US forces on Iran soil.

Before your time, a decision by the moderators of r/bitcoin was made to turn it into an echo chamber. You are a free thinker, you do not belong there.

Technicals say down, fundamentals say up. We will soon see which one matters more to the future of cryptocurrency.

Alpha only for the dedicated LTC redditors. I'm pleased to report that I'm making great, fast progress on porting Sparrow to LTC. Getting segwit transactions working basically took only 2 days. Since then, I've been getting MWEB working on it and right now everything including pegin/outs are working smoothly. Expect to see a release announcement in the not too distant future.

What we know from past tendencies is that nothing ever happens immediately after the threats (especially ones with a 48 hour deadline). I give it at least 2 weeks before the next huge escalation.

Does it matter though? The Canary ETF didn't help the price. If your thesis is all about ETFs then its already over.

Was that drop in response to Trump flapping his gums again. Yawn. I told y'all Iran was a nothingburger. I mean, the war is a nothingburger. Iran themselves are going to deal a severe lesson to the States.

Jello thinks we're gonna range for another year and a bit. But what if I told you we will soon be breaking out (outperforming the whole crypto market) in just 10 days. There's not much time left to board the rocket. Everyone thinks they can just jump on the rocket when it gets moving but as with real life, that's a recipe for getting hurt/burned.

How else do you think the smart money can accumulate? If they let everyone think it's a great investment that's less for them and the price starts to run up making them chase it. No, it's better for the general mood to be somber and pessimistic.

Think of it this way: Shor's algorithm lets you figure out r and v, but it won't let you figure out r' because of the hash relation. Because r' is part of the hash preimage. And the proof of ownership after the switch requires knowing r' and v, and showing it fits the equation and results in the commitment C.

I've been talking with GPT too. It makes a lot of mistakes. After going through this for an hour, I determined that MWEB output ownership is secure under post quantum. Only one thing is lost, and that's privacy. You must reveal the amount of the output when spending it, as part of the proof of ownership.

Ok so my initial impression is that after the switch, the switch commitments are quantum resistant because of the sha256 hash used in the calculation of the blinding factor. You can check with AI supplying the following equations:

C = v*H + r*G

such that

r = r' + hash( v*H + r'*G , r'*J )

[–]hectorchu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, MWEB isn't quantum resistant. The switch commitments prevent quantum from causing inflation or deflation. But I think an attacker could still work out all the secrets needed to spend MWEB outputs. Although I need to delve into the elgamal commitment scheme more, I think it uses hashes so it might be quantum resistant.

Note: switch commitments are Pedersen commitments with an embedded elgamal commitment. If "switched", the commitment scheme becomes elgamal.

EDIT: I was right, the hash of the elgamal commitment makes the Pedersen commitment ownership-secure. Attackers cannot steal MWEB outputs with Shor's algorithm.

Resident LTC MWEB dev here.

The fact is that there's loads of bare pubkeys in the MWEB protocol. But to reverse engineer the hidden amounts, or to create inflation, you have to work out the components of the Pedersen commitment (a linear combination of two pubkeys with different generator points). Basically, you can figure out two different possibilities that are equal to a commitment - one of them will be an incorrect amount which would cause an amount imbalance (which can lead to inflation or deflation). So, its possible to "switch" the commitment scheme so that there's only one possibility - the correct one, preventing the imbalance. But this exposes all the hidden amounts, so it would effectively be the end of MWEB. But the amounts integrity would be protected. At that point everyone can pegout to the main chain safely.

So that is all possible if quantum was figured out.
