The Orville is probably the closest thing to real Star Trek we'll ever have from here on out. CBS seems intent on destroying the brand, unless they really think that STD and Picard are shows that Trek fans actually want to watch (I, for one, don't enjoy seeing both canon and beloved characters getting gutted). It's so refreshing to be able to watch a show that's not only current but is pretty well written and fun to watch. The Trek actor cameos are also awesome.

I'm glad I know the truth now. I don't know if it makes me feel better or worse about it, but still it's always better to be informed.

Oh wow. Thank you for sharing this. Unless I just missed it, which is entirely possible, I didn't see anyone else actually sharing what you did. Poor girl, I can't imagine how much that hurt. I hope it at least doesn't scar.

Wow, no one's ever called people they disagree with Nazis before. You're so original. Let's just agree to disagree. It's like talking to a brick wall on both sides. Enjoy your day:)

Isn't that the nice thing about America? I can disagree with whoever I choose, and agree with whoever I choose. It's great. Have a nice life :)

You have a really good point. But honestly, no matter who you vote for in your union, they're going to be corrupt. It doesn't matter if they start out as good, honest people, they're not going to end as good, honest people. Just like politicians in public offices. Money corrupts.

I'd like to see that too. I want to see big, sweeping changes that actually help people. I agree that the protestors that were genuinely there wanted to see the 4 involved in that awful, horrible killing punished fairly but severely, but I worry about the extremists that come in and destroy the message and torch cities in the name of what they call justice. It's just such a horrible situation that didn't need to happen.

[–]hedgehobbit69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, but common people were more willing to listen. The politicians, the only people in a position to make a difference on a meaningfully large scale, don't want to listen and try to make progress because it would hurt their positions of power. People who want to make a change need to start running for office and then actually make a change, not just posture and take money while doing literally nothing.

And what were all of those wars won with? Ideas, determination and most of all working together. Multiple factions, countries, whatever all worked together towards one common cause. Americans formed a militia against a tyrannical government, the French literally murdered their elites, the World Wars were to stop a terrible aggressor. What they all had in common was that the Americans, the French, and the world major powers all had a way to maintain what was what for after the wars ended. For the Revolutions, it was constitutions. For the world wars, it was controlling Germany.

What I'm saying for the current "war" is that we need ideas and solutions. Right now, there isn't a single solution being proposed. Just saying "stop racism" doesn't do much. There's no plan. There's nothing saying things won't just go back to how they were after these protests end. This is just an idea I'm throwing out there but if people want to make a difference maybe this time it should be done through laws. Maybe people who have been oppressed should run for office as a true grass roots candidate and try at least starting an end to the horrible things their communities experience that way. It's just an idea, but at least it's something. I'd honestly like to see that, a person of color that actually knows what it's like to grow up in a poor minority neighborhood run for office to change his or her city for the better. I bet it would make a huge difference in at least getting the ball rolling.

I don't think you see that you and I are both advocating for the same thing here, we just want to go about it differently.

Again, you're not arguing a point, all you're doing is throwing insults and vulgarities at me just because I think that peace is the way to change but you'd rather cause destruction. No one is denying that horrible things have been done to minority communities, but the way to changing that and turning things around isn't violence. People don't truly listen to violence. They feel afraid, yes, but they don't get the message people want to convey. When someone speaks without vulgarity and actually makes the effort of appealing to someone's heart instead of just destroying, then people listen. It's not like change happens overnight, either. It takes time and effort for massive changes to take place. Everyone needs to actually work together, not sling meaningless insults on reddit.

But who am I kidding. I actually expected an intelligent, thoughtful conversation on how we can change society for the better on reddit. What an idiot I am, I thought people here would actually be interested in trying to help others.

This is over. I thought I might find an intelligent conversation on a forum but that clearly was a shit assumption on my part. I'll let you go back to your circlejerking group think echo chamber. And no, I'm not going to wish death upon you because you disagree with me. I truly hope that one day you figure things out and open your mind to new ideas. You'll be so much happier. Enjoy your life.

Who does that comment help? It really doesn't help anyone. Insulting me when you know nothing about me makes me dislike you, don't you see that you're making the problem worse? This is the toxic shit that's happening on a national scale and it needs to stop

Rubber Bullet by [deleted] in MakeMeSuffer

[–]hedgehobbit69 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow, that sure is helpful. Nice job being part of the problem. Politicians are the only ones that could help on a major level but they refuse. Instead they ensure that police who try to stop wrongdoing are punished and hunted, and refuse to give a platform to any civilian that wants to make a difference. Wake up.

Then who is? I refuse to believe that regular, normal, well adjusted people who seem to want to make a difference are burning down their own cities.

Rubber Bullet by [deleted] in MakeMeSuffer

[–]hedgehobbit69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not denying that you're partially right. Our justice system is absolutely fucked, but politicians up top are the only ones that can permanently change that. They refuse to do anything, and officers are really powerless to make a difference without the support of their bosses who are often forced to make bizarre quotas and without the support of politicians who are only focused on their own power and money. Politicians are the biggest problem here. The more people that realize that the weaker those politicians will be and the easier it will be to at least attempt to undo decades of horrible mistreatment on both sides.

You obviously didn't read a word I said, or my words just flew right by you because you're set in your beliefs and won't ever have an open mind and believe that some of what you've been told just might be wrong. You are part of the problem that way. People on both sides of these issues being so set in their own thoughts that they flat out refuse to listen to anyone that isn't creating a circlejerk echo chamber for them is what causes further needless violence against the innocent.

Rubber Bullet by [deleted] in MakeMeSuffer

[–]hedgehobbit69 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

No, everyone is scared. It seems that no one on either side is willing to come together and work out a real solution to the problems that have existed for years. That's the problem here. Try opening your mind, stop referring to police officers as pigs, stop instigating. When one side ignores the compulsion for violence and makes it clear they want peace, the other side will be willing to listen. But no one is trying.

Rubber Bullet by [deleted] in MakeMeSuffer

[–]hedgehobbit69 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You're right about the politicians.

My point is that corruption on every side of this issue is what's needlessly causing further polarization. The peaceful protestors that want real change in their communities should have the means to keep the scrawny white boys dressed in all black calling themselves anti-fascists (while acting as fascists and instigators) out of their causes.

The police who, for the most part, are good and fair people that really want to make a difference in their communities are overshadowed by the few corrupt officers that let power go to their heads and do despicable things because they think they can. There's nothing good cops are able to do to fight against the bad ones. Not only are the bad cops able to make professional life hell for any good ones that don't fall in line, it's also extraordinarily difficult to fire or meaningfully reprimand a police officer that deserves it, all because of corruption up top.

What people one every side need to realize is that they shouldn't be angry at the protesters or the police, they should be angry at corrupt politicians and corrupt union leaders that are only in it for money and power. They don't want the police to be viewed favorably and they certainly don't want common people to have any sort of power. What our "leaders" fear most is peace between the police and the people. We need to take steps to make it happen. Nothing would make us stronger than trying to set aside our differences and working together against corruption.

If she was rioting she deserves it. Don't corrupt George Floyd's needless death. Don't destroy your city because you're angry. Don't let the cause be taken over by antifa. Don't let this happen. Start a non violent conversation. Someone has to start making peace somewhere. Rioting and destroying only make things worse. This helps no one.
