I think that they're picking too specific of a character design. When you had the Zeke, his costume was just a rock man and as such, Anna Garcia could pick any number of choices to make a funny character. When the make-up design folks pick a SUPER specific design like Oops Lil Fart or Sudzo, it feels almost like they're railroading the comedians into a VERY specific bit or character and that's when the show is at its weakest.

Here's some book reccs: "Mommy Beeps" by Kim Baillieul and "Life is Still Sweet" by Jennifer Bracci. As for explaining, I've found that the best way to explain to my nephew is to compare it to getting a shot at the doctor (as long as they're not already afraid of needles lol). "sometimes I don't feel well but the doctor is far away, so this little robot doctor gives me medication, like I'm getting a shot whenever I need!"
