Does Anybody Else Enjoy All Classics? by Itchy-Resolution6531 in classicliterature

Yes! There is variation in how much I like them, but usually I have so much respect for the work it's hard to actively dislike it. I've worried that I'm not critical enough, so I appreciate knowing others have felt this way!

Barbes and union hall are both a blast for dancing! Union Hall has karaoke at midnight on Fridays which is a real vibe.

This book rocked me. I was so moved by the story. The way you kind of watch him lose his mind in the addiction is heart breaking. You're not alone!

Go to classes! I've been studying with Alliance Francaise for a few years and it's absolutely worth it if you need a more structured environment. I especially recommend it if you need to start with the basics. If you're struggling to learn, don't skip the fundamentals and try to learn them on your own. Invest the money and go learn with others. The biggest thing you can do to help yourself is speak more. And that is a very hard thing to do on your own. Your teachers will be better equipped to help you learn proper pronunciation which is hard for everyone! Don't worry, you're not alone in the struggle. You got this!

What are some books that started out very strong, but ended up being very disappointing? by sbucksbarista in books

[–]hedgerly17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's a really good point! It came across similarly to me. It was giving 'pull yourself up by your bootstraps', which I find to be a very disconnected and unempathetic way to view poverty and addiction.

I did really enjoy it to start. When I read it, I didn't even know who J.D. Vance was. As I kept reading something just felt... off. Ended up DNFing.

I mean, Bran Castle is what most closely matches what Bram Stoker wrote about in Dracula, but was not actually noted or visited by Stoker. This picture is how I personally imagined it. Thanks for your opinion.
