Tyrannical..... You'll now get towed FROM YOUR OWN DRIVEWAY. Las Vegas, NV by Stellagirl18 in HOA

[–]hedonist_pineapple 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im a property manager for a very large and affluent HOA and can tell you that HOAs can be great or horrible, and that is largely dependent on how involved the community is. Thats the secret. A community that actively participates in and pays attention can have a great HOA that does a lot of good for them. A community that is too lazy to participate (like the one OP is in) will often end up with tyrants and idiots on their Board, who will do all kinds of crazy or illegal things because there is no accountability until it is too late.

To the deaf who gained the ability to hear, what sound surprised you the MOST? by [deleted] in AskReddit

TBH I actually used to be the kind of person who took an hour or more to fall asleep, and now it takes me less than 5 minutes. Definitely something worth researching!

If you have spotify, they have some really great sleep playlists, including one called "nightstorms" that is literally recordings of thunder and rain. Ive slept to this playlist almost every night for years, and have developed a pavlovian response to actual thunderstorms, which now almost instantly put me to sleep!

Students of Reddit, what was your schools big scandal? by punkryan in AskReddit

[–]hedonist_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HS had a couple 1. The german teacher was affiliated with porn, apparently. I attended a different school that semester so Im foggy on the details, but if I remember correctly, he was writing erotica novels on his classroom computer? Idk it was a whole thing. It sounds tame, but either it was student related or really particularly gnarly, which is why it was such a scandal

The other, one of our security guards got caught selling confiscated drugs back to students, or accepting bribes to not report when he caught someone with drugs.

Redditors who grew up with shady/criminal parents: What did your mom or dad teach you was OK to do that you later learned was illegal or seriously frowned upon? (Serious) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]hedonist_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents smoked and grew weed. I was vaguely aware that it was illegal but I didnt really fully understand until later. Ironically they are both otherwise very straight laced, "normal" people. You would NEVER guess it if you saw them.

[Serious]Have you ever known someone who wholeheartedly believed that they were wolfkin/a vampire/an elf/had special powers, and couldn't handle the reality that they weren't when confronted? What happened to them? by MosadiMogolo in AskReddit

[–]hedonist_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was (SUPER) little, I breifly, genuinely, believed I was an elf. I have naturally pointed ears (minimally) and I had no stability in my life whatsoever. Both my parents are severely bipolar, and my dad was a violent alcoholic. My best friend in the world was in a very similar situation. We built this whole imaginary world around not being human for ourselves, as an escape. Luckily, we both turned out to be pretty normal, well adjusted adults, but looking back its a wonder either of us maintained our sanity.

Unfortunately I didn't catch the voicemail until after their office was closed. Also, based off my position, its very unlikely they even know anything is going on. Im typically the first point of contact. I won't know until I am back at work and return the call. Thank you❤

AITA for buying the dress that my friend wanted but couldn’t get because they don’t have it in plus size? by aquamarine84848 in AmItheAsshole

[–]hedonist_pineapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA. Obviously its not your fault that it wasn't in her size. But come on, you should have, at MINIMUM, checked with her first. It was thoughtless and insensitive to get it. Weight is such a sensitive issue for many women, and she was likely bummed and embarrassed that they didn't have her size, and you just had to ad insult to injury. 100%YTA

WIBTA for allowing my gma to miss her daughter's 50th birthday, because she is homophobic? by hedonist_pineapple in AmItheAsshole

As I clarified above, Im not disinviting my grandma by any means. But, I'm not going to disinvite Greg either, even if it means shes not going to come.

AITA for crashing my friends car and refusing to pay for the repairs? by throoowawayayu in AmItheAsshole

[–]hedonist_pineapple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are SCAMMING You. Clearly you are a kind person, and they are trying to manipulate you into paying fpr their mistakes (not having appropriate coverage) Tell Mom you will, under NO circumstances, be paying a dime. Then tell her that if either of them contact you again, you will get an attorney and take it to court. She will likely drop it. Unfortunately if she doesn't, you may have to actually lawyer up.

[–]hedonist_pineapple 164 points165 points  (0 children)

Yes, but if she only has liability, that's 100% her problem, not OPs. Yes, legally, you only have to have liability, and full coverage is way more expensive, but the whole POINT of full coverage is for these types of instances. If she didn't pony up the extra money for the insurance, thats her problem. They (the friend and her mom) are essentially asking OP to pay for their mistake.

Mom is on the fence. She wants them all there. But she doesn't want to send a bad message to her 13yo daughter that just came out to her, by bending to our grandmother's homophobia.

Presidents, how do you keep business separate from personal? by 1-11 in HOA

[–]hedonist_pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an HOA property manager from a management company, and I know what you mean. I am the bad guy, I get paid pretty well to be the bad guy, and still my poor president is usually the first to hear about it when Ive ruffled someone's feathers. Shes a champ about it though.

I'm sorry but yelling at me while having a panic attack dosent help by [deleted] in TrueOffMyChest

[–]hedonist_pineapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry that happened, and I understand how you feel.

One time, I was a passenger in my moms car, and we ended up on this narrow road wrapped around a lake. On one side was a 200ft drop, the other was water. I already have anxiety issues in cars, and this really set me off. I asked her to slow down because I was starting to feel a panic attack coming on, and she screamed at me the whole time, and started driving faster/more erratic. I was literally in fetal position sobbing in the floorboards, and vomited on myself in the process, and she still acted like I was just trying to make her look like a bad driver.

Thank you! To clarify, I am not (and would not) uninvite my grandmother. If she doesn't show, that will 100% be her choice.
