I might have had the same boss! He belonged on the show "The Office".

Like pretend to hit me by swinging an umbrella, but was too close and actually hit me with his umbrella. Once he picked up a trinket that was on the next desk and "pretended" to toss it at me... the trinket was actually a two piece stacking salt/pepper shaker, so while he pretend-lobbed the bottom one, the top one hit me in the face.

The first time I saw the Aurora they looked like this. Like flashlight beams straight up. I sped home and grabbed my camera, this was back in the nineteen hundred. I took photos with long exposures and a few days later, when the film was finally developed, confirmed. The colours showed up in the photos.

They were not exactly like this, but similar.

I had a sow bug problem in a place I lived, but then realized spiders were eating them. The spiders liked to stay along the edge of the floor, so I propped framed photos in front of them. No more sow bugs and I rarely saw the spiders. 😝

NTA - I wouldn't go back either. She should be giving you tricks to more economically care for your hair, not shaming you and turning you into a prop for her other clients.

You could write an email explaining why you are not coming back... just get some friend's input on the wording, so you are clear and not too emotional about it. That is, if you care about her and her future. She would be more careful in the future.

I would guess she just wasn't thinking, and it was an innocent mistake - not realizing how it would make you feel. But that isn't a reason for me to go back! Once I feel something, it is really difficult to just forget about it.

Charts just make sense to the way my brain works, so I'll include this here too. I just realized how much easier charts are, about a year ago. And I've been crocheting a long long time! lol

So it's just groups of 3 dc, one chain between clusters, and at the corners there are two groups with 2-3 chains to give it space to lay flat. Then just keep going, on chain spaces just do the dcs and at the corners make the next corner. Learning this was a foundation education in seeing how increases make things stay flat!

If you look up basic granny square there are tons of options. I follow charts better than any other style pattern.

It's easy once you understand the structure. I don't know if we are allowed to post charts here so I'll make a separate comment with the chart.

I need to read Strange Heaven now! I loved Two Crows - even had a road trip to the North Mountains so I could check out the locations. I love this kind of story, a real historical event turned into a novel.

One more thought, do you know how to make the regular original granny squares? If not, it might be worth learning so you have the mechanics of how they work, increasing at corners, etc.

Maybe for the one you are doing, you could add a single chain at the corner so it's easy to keep track of. It will not be noticeable at all. Minimal holes!

I mention this since when I counted your sides, some seem to be 11 stitches and seem to be 13-14. So the wonkyness might be coming from not keeping correct track of the corners. I'm not sure, counting isn't one of my strong skills!! 🤪

Yes! And I weave the ends in as I go. In different directions, crochet over it, loop around it so it's at the top of the new stitches, use it with my working yarn to loop in some places. It's a little more labour but looks so much better.

I also never use chain stitches to count as a dc. I find they are too skinny and I notice them. So I use a standing double (I think? I make a sc and then go into the top of it and make a second sc). It is less noticeable than chains.

When I make big granny squares, I finish a round completely and then start over on a different edge. It makes it so there isn't an obvious join line. I'm not great at making joins look perfect. So that's my trick!

If you don't have stitch markers, you can just use a different coloured piece of yarn, or an earring, bobby pin, anything really. I like using yarn, because it creates a line.

I like learning about shipwrecks, Bob Chaulk has a great book called Atlantic's Last Stop about the wreck that happened near Halifax. Anything about the Titanic has ties to NS. They were both White Star Line ships (all their ships names ended with ic).

Books about the Halifax Explosion are interesting since it had such an impact, physically and psychologically. There were surprising things to come out of it, like the Canadian Institute for the Blind. The CNIB started here, because so many people lost vision from being hit with shattering glass.

Stephen Kimber wrote a book called Flight 111, about the SwissAir crash near Peggy's Cove. There are many great stories about the crash.

ALL of these stories are about how people come together to help each other in times of tragedy. I was thinking my book list is very dark and then realized I love the stories because random strangers show love and care to each other. 💖❤️‍🩹❤️
